In retrospect, I love the idea of Ted Williams and Tom Brady comparisons. Except for the jewelry and fighting in a couple of wars, they played far past the age of their contemporaries. They made a science out of hitting and throwing. And both had a giant chip on their shoulder.

True to a degree.

Patriots drafted Brady despite having Bledsoe and capable backups. They also carried four QBs in 2000. I don't think anyone would argue they knew Brady would be HoF or even pro bowl level, but I think the Patriots deserve more than just stab in the dark credit as well. Had they not had Bledsoe, Friesz, and Bishop, they very well might have taken him in a higher round. Or in other words, they were in as good shape (at least it appeared) at the QB position as any in the NFL and still took Brady before any other team.

It was Bill who sent **** to scout the Orange Bowl in the first place. And then, keep four QB's on the active roster. And promote Tom to #2 on the depth chart.

It's reasonable to believe that if it wasn't Mo Lewis' footsteps coming to send Drew to the hospital, it was going to be Bill's, coming to show him a spot on the bench, to hell with the huge stupid contract.

Clearly Brady has had a far better career. But I have always contended that if Brady wasn't on the Patriots, and didn't have Bellidick's mastery finding guys that he could plus in and protect Marcia, and if Brady played on virtually any other team and had to face a constant rush in his face, he wouldn't have turned out nearly as good. And yes, I know how smart he is and how fast he can get the ball out and how he can move in the pocket. I also know he cant deal with a strong rush.

Clearly, you should hope he's right. I certainly hope he's right.

I'll stipulate that what we've seen for 15 years is a perfect storm incorporating TFB, BB, Ernie Adams, Dante Scarnecchia (or however he's spelled), and (boo hiss) the Krafts - the most significant actors being the first two. So I think that KTD is an idiot too.

But what if he's not? What a delicious thought!

The worst nightmare of any fan of another team right now should be,

"Tom Brady? System quarterback."

If Magical Belichick could make this happen with any merely "good" quarterback, it's fifteen more years of pain for the Bills (and the rest of the NFL). Give him one ring with some future upstart or (perish the thought, because of the implications,) JAG, and you know he'll be on the Marv Levy retirement plan

BB's had enough QBs in the system that we know KTD is wrong. I'm fine with that. I prefer the Montana/Young scenario to the "system QB" scenario, anyway.

How do so many idiots still argue that Brady isn't tough? The guys who have beat him up the most say he's the toughest QB they've ever faced. He's played full seasons with injuries and never said a word. God, that ****'s annoying.

Like I've said, anyone who argues another QB over Brady at this point is beyond rational thinking. Arguing that they'd rather have a guy with zero rings is flat-out lunacy.

Both are great. If anything i think belichick is nothing without Brady holds more water. But I don't even think that one is true. They compliment each other perfectly

The crazy thing about the "whines for a flag" argument is that all QBs do it. If you watch pre-season games, you'll see QBs playing in the 3rd and 4th quarter (guys who are either long shots to make the team or will be 2nd or 3rd string in the regular season) working the refs for RTP or DPI flags. I'm sure that Jim Kelly, as tough as he was, yelled at the refs if he thought he was hit late and didn't get a flag. Somehow*, the narrative has become only Brady does it and he does it all the time.

I was just watching the throwback thursday 2 hour docu on the 90's bills on NYJFL* Network.

I almost felt sorry for them until I remember what that douche Jim Kelly said

On another note, interesting how the bills were gassed by the end of the half in their 4th superbowl despite leading because of how deep they went into the playoffs year after year.

I think it's a testament to BB how he keeps his team in shape despite going deep into the playoffs year after year.

It's also a testament to the Bill's treating Super Bowl week like spring break.

Brady has only ever missed games due to an ACL/MCL tear in his 16 year career, is playing the best football of his life at age 39, still going strong for at least another year or two, yet according to Bills fans (and other nostalgic fans who still suck their thumb while rubbing their noses with their Joe Montana blankets) Brady wouldn't have "lasted" in the 80s/90s era.
