Jim Kelly or Tom Brady?

This from "Ramza86" is also quite insane.
LOL, there's a reason for it all right. It's called dumb luck. Just like the other 31 teams, the Pats had no idea what they were getting in Brady, but they were the only team that had a QB coach that wanted to take a flyer in the 6th round. Thank goodness for dumb luck.

Who cares? Of course Brady is better than Kelly. That being said Kelly is arguably the best QB to never win it all and a worthy HOFer.

You do....otherwise you wouldn't have responded. I'm almost certain you're right about Brady being better the point is the Bills fans don't attempt to bring up system, air pressure, coach or any other BS that they spout during the regular season.

It is debateable Kelly is a legit 1st ballot HoF Qb.

I don't get the point of this. It looked like all the Bills fans picked Brady.

Offseason + internet.

let's give credit where credit is due. Offseason not over. The Billdos could be the first team to win the May super bowl without a general manager

I was going to go with the reason being "they were wrong" - but you're right too.

I'll never understand why people earnestly say Brady needed Belichick's coaching to become what he is. There are some circumstantial things that obviously have helped, stability for one, but the idea that BB could just "coach up" a player to the height Brady has achieved is delusional. If that were even somewhat possible, why hasn't BB coached up more of the 1000's of players he's coached in his years on the Patriots into "all time great status"?

Interesting philosophical question:

Generally speaking, when evaluating the "greatest of all time," we give a great deal of credit for winning championships. However, since the very definition of this side discussion is "greatest who never won a Super Bowl," does that mean we should give credit for achieving that highest level short of winning a Super Bowl (i.e. a conference championship)?

I'd take Marino as the greatest ever who never won, with Tarkenton in 2nd (well ahead of Kelly).

NOTE: I consider this discussion implies "of the Super Bowl era" so I don't go into a discussion of Sammy, Otto or Y.A.

what would you rather have a billion dollars, or a million dollars?

Depends... Did that billion dollars play for the Cheatriots, or the glorious Bills?

LOL, I'd take either right about now!

oooooh im sorry, by failing to choose one of the two options, the person below you has gotten to choose in your stead, and they took the billion dollars.

I love the hardcore Kelly fans comparing toughness. Memories have clearly dulled over time. The late 80s edition of Kelly used to duck and cover when Andre Tippett showed just a hint of beating his blocker. Thank God the '94 Pats went up to Buffalo and punked them out of a playoff berth, sparing the world of having to watch a 5th straight SB loss.

Regards,
Chris

Thurman Thomas or Jim Brown?

Bruce Smith or Charles Haley?

Scott Norwood or Adam Vinatieri?

Real tough choices....Barfalo fans have some real tough questions to ponder...

Don't forget the big one:
Marv Levy or Bill Belichick?

Even staying pretty modern, I can't really see that argument holding water

Fouts
Marino
Tarkenton
Moon
Anderson

I think that the top 3, at the very least, are clearly above Kelly in that argument.
Don't forget Ken Stabler in the discussion.

...Hmmm? Yes, what about SB XI? OK, let me tell you a story...

"Brady is a whimp he could never take the pounding Kelly did"
First, as we know, Tom's got the crap kicked out of him at various times when our O-Line was less than special.

Second, should we elevate Ken O'Brien ahead of Brady because he took more sacks? Since when is being sacked the measure of a QB?

Reading that thread one comment I saw over and over again really bugged me. "Brady is a whimp he could never take the pounding Kelly did" or variations there of....

Brady was sacked 104 times in his first 3 seasons as a starter.
Kelly was sacked 100 times in his first 3 seasons as a starter.

Brady has been sacked 417 times in his NFL career, to date.
Kelly was sacked 323 times in his NFL career.

True to a degree.

Patriots drafted Brady despite having Bledsoe and capable backups. They also carried four QBs in 2000. I don't think anyone would argue they knew Brady would be HoF or even pro bowl level, but I think the Patriots deserve more than just stab in the dark credit as well. Had they not had Bledsoe, Friesz, and Bishop, they very well might have taken him in a higher round. Or in other words, they were in as good shape (at least it appeared) at the QB position as any in the NFL and still took Brady before any other team.

This from "Ramza86" is also quite insane.
The reason is that they had three quarterbacks on the roster with one just signed to a monster contract.

Jim Kelly was a heck of a football player, but the metaphor is would you rather have Ted Williams or Trot Nixon?
