Did Knight sign with anyone, yet?
For some reason he strikes me as a fit.

Not sure about confirmation on Pyke, though.
Just searched and can't find any confirmation of Pyke signing. Appears he's still technically a udfa. Hopefully he has an offer here that isn't official yet.

Real talk: @long distance is one of the best members we have; love the knowledge, research, and thoughtfulness that goes into each post. Thanks for all the enlightening draft discussions! You rock.

Read Pyke signed with Bills. Maybe he changed his mind.

18 UDFA, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 make this team. That gives those kids a 1 and 6 chance of a reasonably joining the world champs. No wonder so many were willing to give it a shot. With only 4 picks taken, I can easily see 3 of this kids making the team, and at least 2.

Prediction - after Daniels impresses everyone and becomes a fan favorite, he will be cut to a lot of people's disappointment, but quickly be picked up by another team. That's what happens sometimes when you have a stacked roster.

Dang, Ken! I was ready to hit the like button till the second paragraph. I'm hoping the Pats find a way to keep this guy, if he is what I hope he is.

I do agree with the 3 though.

I see your point. But a 300 lb lineman against a woman possibly 1/3 of his size, he should show try and show restraint. At best, it displays terrible judgement. My bigger issue is owners trying to get horrible people on their teams and seeing if anyone notices, a la Josh brown and the Giants.
Understand, and agree. But also realize that sometimes reflex kicks in a lot faster than restraint and inhibitions. Anybody who physically assaults someone three times their size has to accept some share of responsibility for the consequences.

Ski U Mah!

I may be the only Golden Gopher on Patsfans, so I'm excited for this signing. Gophers' secondary was brutal for decades but has been really solid the last four or five years. Hopefully he ends up having a bigger impact than their last Gopher, Brock Vereen.

MG - You might want to familiarize yourself with the UDFA signings.. Most of them the non-OL ones were playing special teams. And they weren't just playing, they were the best on their respective teams.. Bolden could easily be done with the players the Pats have added.. Let's not act like Bolden can't be replaced on STs because he can. It's just a matter of who will do it. Langi. Thompson. Hollister. Wise. Burkhead.

Brandon King is less likely than Bolden to lose his job, but he's still going to be in a dogfight with the Jones, Thompson, Thomas, and Travis coming in. Same with Jordan Richards.

Geneo Grissom's roster spot certainly isn't a lock. Neither is Jonathan Freeny's.

Let's not forget that for quite some time, BB had starters like Vrabel, Bruschi, and Harrison out on Special Teams regularly. So, I could see Burkhead out there. Especially if Gillislee ends up as the top dog..

I agree with your comments.

There will be a dogfight for the 5-7 ST positions. I presume that Slater, Ebner and King will be hard to unseat, although there will be competition. J Jones was very strong last year. I expect a tough battle among the front seven. I don't have Grissom making the team (or Bolden), although Freeney has a good chance to win one of the positions.

Would your prediction of 3 UDFA's if we drafted players instead trading 5 picks for players?

I find that 3 is a very unlikely number. IMHO, our primary needs on the offensive line will likely be met by bringing in free agents.

I have really no idea one way or the other. All I know is that seemingly every year at least one or tw0 UDFA's make the final september cut. Last season it was JJones and Foster. Given the fact we have such a high volume (18) this year, and so few picks, it doesn't seem unthinkable that we might up that number this season. Who they might be and where they play, I haven't a clue. Just playing the numbers game here.

I understand. I'm playing the numbers game from the other side. It seems to me that we have fewer open positions. In any case, I do not see so much roster weakness that I would raise my expectations from 1-2 to 3.

IMHO, Belichick is signing more UDFA's because he sees fewer weaknesses and therefore is not signing more veteran free agents.
