If this is true, it explains a hell of a lot. That has the potential to turn even the soundest of minds into babbling, incoherent, hallucinating paranoid freaks.

Then he started SEEKING OUT the gang lifestyle and it escalated at UF, where arguably he had "made it" and was a big man on campus. Then came the big money, which you'd think would let him separate, but he chose to live that double life and sink even deeper.

Not that I'm attempting to make excuses for anyone, but I'm a big believer in the idea that it takes some people longer to mature, particularly younger males. I don't have any statistics or studies on hand at the moment, but I think there's a lot to suggest a drop in criminal activity once males reach their 30s. Unfortunately, getting those kids through their teens and twenties has proven to be difficult for many.

It sounds like he got caught up in the make believe world of thinking that "street cred" is more important than real life, particularly under the circumstances that you provided where he didn't even have a bad childhood. The whole situation is a terrible shame for all involved.

I refuse to let his childhood or personal tragedies serve as an explanation for what he did.

There are people on this board who have been though a helluva lot worse and are well-adjusted, happy people.

At the end of the day, AH had a psychological issue which masked his ability to apply judgement, reality and respect for human beings.

I'm starting to become convinced that you may be onto something. After all, the early 90s weed movement certainly helped to slow down the crack epidemic, and somewhat significantly (and no, I don't believe it was due to the enactment of mandatory minimum laws).

As time moves forward, we should have a much better idea as to whether or not harder drug use and overdoses are declining in states where weed is legal. As of now, I believe that it has declined in certain areas like Colorado, but not in others.

Edit: I'm sorry, you were specifically referring to spice, although I think some of the same logic would apply.

Obviously I feel bad for his murder victims and their families, but I really feel for that 4 year old girl he left behind. She has to go through the pain of losing her daddy and spend the rest of her life coming to grips with who he really was. She didn't ask for any of this.

Just about every news outlet or blog has something on AH...
There are a lot of "reported" so called "details" that have been released, but probably not by prison officials.
If he did smoke synthetic marijuana he not only had to get the marijuana, but also something to light it, smoking materials and lighters are contraband in Mass. Corr. facilities, it could happen, but a lot of moving parts there.. there also may have been sensors in the cell.
He wrote "John 3:16 on his forehead", as far as I know there are no mirrors in supermax prison cells.
"He jammed his door", in any prison doors either slide or open out.. so not sure about that detail either.
The higher the prison security, the more CCTV technology is used. So if there was someone who entered his cell or if he was not checked by a CO as scheduled that can be easily determined from the CCTV footage.
Baez and his agent are saying he was killed, how does anyone kill a guy like AH and not leave a bloody mess.. more facetime for Baez & agent.
Read where this is a call for Mass. Prison Reform and questions are there enough staff, another effort at facetime for certain elected officials. Supermax facilities are always evolving, and technology is used more and more to augment CO's.

In prisons people commit suicide, and just because he was happy and laughing on Friday, does not indicate what his frame of mind was on early Monday Morning, AH was an impulsive person who had a crazy mixed up value system. I wonder if his coming back on late Friday from Court, on Easter weekend if he was not given some sort of mental health evaluation due to mental health staff not being on site.

IMO a mistake here was the Mass. DOC released a statement that it was a suicide early on, they may have been better served is they qualified it by saying that AH was found dead in his cell at blah blah and it appears to have been a suicide, however we are awaiting for the investigation of the Mass. State Police, Internal Prison Investigation and reports from the Medical Examiner before we make a determination.

Contrary to (some) others I do feel bad even when people take a road I never would, & end up wasting their lives & sometimes losing them.

Before somebody jumps on this I feel terrible for Odin Lloyd & family. I feel bad for those that AH left behind.

1 thing about our reaction (without proof) to the not guilty finding. Some here feel they have enough evidence and know better than the jury.

I don't follow these cases that closely, but are u sure? The reason I say that is that if there is somebody else guilty of these crimes still on the street, and some DA just wanted a case closed for career purposes, what better patsy than a guy already convicted?

Like I said, I don't follow this stuff but I always worry when we rush to conclusions like " he was an a-hole, already convicted of 1 murder, of course he did it."

In any event, so ends the sad story of a guy who couldn't be appeased by what the life of a pro athlete had to offer...

This is really bizarre. He had been acquitted of the murder charges.

All he had to do was let his high powered attorney appeal the gun charges or reduce them. Oh well, the world will never know. The drama ends here.

No he didn't. He still has to serve a life sentence for killing Odin Lloyd.
