Jason McCourty released by Tennessee

I want them to sign McCourty just so I can watch him magically, and instantly, become better than Richard Sherman.

McCourty would be the #3, battling with Rowe for playing time, if he played well they might move him outside and use Butler in the slot.

Jmac is cooked.
Only reason Tennessee even tried to get him to renegotiate his contract was for his professionalism, and locker room presence...Not his ability.
The pats don't need locker room guys...They have more than enough.
Rowe is well ahead of him at this point in their careers anyway.

Two piping hot takes in one post.

I guess time will tell.
Cheers!
Here's another "piping hot take"
Jmac doesn't land in Foxboro.

Looking how inconsistent Rowe played last year I'd say "well ahead" is a huge stretch.
As opposed to a guy who hasn't done jack, in two years?
Yeah I'd say Rowe is light years ahead.
And younger...And been in the system.
Do the math.

Who cares who is younger ? Rowe will be gone in 2 years once he wants market money.

Rowe hasn't done jack **** since being drafted as well. Like I said in another thread. The most vivid memories I have of Rowe is him celebrating WR drops where he was a step behind. Hopefully he can make a nice jump this offseason otherwise he will end up behind Jonathan Jones on the depth chart for outside corners.

I believe in Rowe far greater than you, but that is your opinion, and I respect it.
It's all opinion. Anyone, and everyone can go on and on about what they "think" or what they "know" but the reality is the only MF'er that knows up from down is BB.
Just good banter...That's all it is. So for any clown to suggest he/she "knows" anything is sheer ridiculousness.

Manxman reviewed film at the end of last year and noticed they played a majority (obviously not all) of their defensive snaps in a 5-2-5 set. During those times, Chung was a safety but essentially played linebacker; the additional secondary role rotated between an additional free safety (Harmon) or a 3rd corner (Ryan on the inside with Rowe on the outside).

Point is that if the Pats continue to play this defense, and if they think he could play safety, it pretty much has zero impact on Chung. Chung would be impacted if, say, the Pats drafted Jabrill Peppers.
A 5-2-5 set? Patriots played a majority of snaps with 12 men on the field? Sounds like another scandal in the works.

I mostly agree with you about Rowe. But I wrote that partly based on "future projection"; Rowe is one of only 3 cbs in the NFL at 6' or taller, who had outstanding 3cone quickness- which usually translates in a cb to the ability to cover smaller, quicker wrs. Btw, Gilmore is one of the other two- so the Pats now have,on paper, 2 of the only 3 tall cbs who should be able to cover the slot.( Something Sherman doesn't do well, despite the clueless posts of some here).
So far,Rowe has not done much of that, but he's still young-and I'm guessing BB will help him reach his potential. So you're right-BUT, he has the skills to cover the slot- may just be a matter of reps.( Btw,his coverage on that Julio Jones incredible catch was perfect).
I don't recall one poster suggesting Sherman would be a slot corner...Could you please, sir, reference who said this?
Thank you.

Dude, no one suggested that. In several other threads ,however, several posters said Sherman could stick anyone. Which is ********. He has limitations.

From Reiss:

“What type of contract could McCourty expect?” The Titans were willing to keep him at a salary lower than the $7 million he was scheduled to earn, but McCourty -- perhaps a bit peeved at the timing of the request, which came well after the initial flurry of free agency -- decided on a fresh start. A $7 million per season pact is highly unlikely; at this point, McCourty might be fortunate to earn half that. One informed opinion relayed that cornerback Leon Hall's one-year deal with a maximum value of $2 million last offseason with the Giants might be a good comparable, though I think there’s a good chance that McCourty -- who at 29 is younger than the 32-year-old Hall -- can do a bit better than that.

Just a reminder: until his injury Jason's 2016 production was similar to Ryan's
(13 games).

People here jump on “decline“ like they're first in line for the job..
