Jason McCourty released by Tennessee

Since he and DMC have the same brain thing going he should learn the defense in about 10 minutes

I'm not sure how good he is but I'm sure hes good enough to be a CB3 or CB4 here. Seems to me there would be a pretty sizable role for him here. Man/zone whatever

How many people did we have on the secondary last year because with the safeties thats already 10 players who would seem like roster locks

It creates competition which is what BB likes going into camp. He'd love to have a dozen guys in the defensive backfield who are all good enough to be thought of that way. This is particularly important after a SB run and win, when there's an additional need for new players who weren't part of it.

They actually went with 12 much of the year - 6 corners and 6 safeties (with Ebner and King being safeties in name only).

Carried Butler, Ryan, Rowe, Cyrus Jones, Jonathan Jones, and Coleman at CB. Swap out Ryan for McCourty and Coleman for Gilmore.

And they needed to. Times have changed. Most every team now has 3 starting cbs and 3 starting safeties, when you total snap counts

He's mostly a zone corner. No thanks. I wouldn't mind him as a safety, though, to rotate in and out with Harmon.

I don't even care if he can play (he can) anymore, the mere thought of BB having identical twins on the same team will be hilarious!

Imagine the conspiracy theories that this will sprout ! I'm sure Harbaugh will claim it's an unfair advantage.

Is that Jason, or Deven, I can only hope that the league let's them wear the same number.

He can have Richards spot.
What's the deal with this kid, is he just a bust at this point? Had a few bright spots his rook year. Seems really smart but might lack the physical ability to play the game.

Think that's it off the chart smarts below average talent for the position.
Should of been a 7th rounder

He's not coming here to be a 4th corner. Might impact the Butler situation - if Butler leaves and Sherman can't be had, I could see BB looking his way. Or heck, maybe the Saints sign McCourty and it kills the Butler interest.

No way a guy like that signs to fill the camp fodder role. Also, I get the feeling that BB likes Rowe a lot.

NO needs as many good defensive players they can get.

What this does is create some very interesting OPPORTUNITIES, especially for position flexibility.

One of the things we've forgotten from last season was how healthy this team was, ESPECIALLY in the secondary. I just don't think you can count on that kind of luck for this season. That is whay I think it will be critical that the Pats built the kind of mega-depth that will survive a "normal" injury season.

So for that reason, IF Jason McCourty can be obtained in the $4-6M range, then THAT could be the catalyst for a Butler trade for the 32nd pick Now we are looking at Gilbert, Rowe/McCourty as your top CB's depending on the match up, and Jone and Jones as your slot midgets, the depth truly would be fantastic

Make your Trades of JG, and Butler. Grab your Edge guy at #12 (Barnnett, Riddick, or Taco), your developmental big CB at 32, and whatever home run reach you want to take a shot at #52, and then go on to have a great draft with your other 7 picks in the draft

Now we have by far the best 2ndary this team has had in its history as far a depth and versitility goes. Have a foundational edge player (we hope). Continue to make improvements on the OL, and more offensive weapons than Brady could hope for.

Plan B would be to pass on McCourty and keep Butler for a tleast a year. The release of McCourty just opens up more options.

Gilmore?
You'd think youd know the name of our highest paid Defensive player
