Jason McCourty released by Tennessee

He's not coming here to be a 4th corner. Might impact the Butler situation - if Butler leaves and Sherman can't be had, I could see BB looking his way. Or heck, maybe the Saints sign McCourty and it kills the Butler interest.

No way a guy like that signs to fill the camp fodder role. Also, I get the feeling that BB likes Rowe a lot.

Keep in mind that Rowe has to play less than 50% of the defensive snaps next year to save our next year's 3rd round pick and give our 4th instead as a trade compensation to Philly. It might sound trivial but the difference between a 3rd (in the 90 range, end of draft day 2) and a 4th (120/130, day 3) is big. So... whoever is in the secondary mix next year (Butler, Sherman, JMac, Revis, rookie, sophomore Cy Jones), it has to work out well enough to keep him as an impactful situational/matchup guy and not to force Bill and Matty P to put him in the base defense.

Butler Gilmore and Rowe are all better players than Jason is at this stage in his career. That would be the best 3cb rotation in the NFL. So,yeah,it would take Butler leaving for Jason to not be the #4. But his play has slipped. Don't be so sure he wouldn't give up some $ and pt for the chance to play with his bro and win a ring.

Give up some equity, and get the better player...Sherman is the guy.
Pretty telling that a team with 40+ million of cap space is willing to kick this guy to the curb because of his 7M cap hit (already factored into the 40+).

I'm sure the Patriots will put Rowe on the field if he gives us the best chance to win.
Add up the surplus of tall receivers we will see if I'm a betting Man Philly is getting that 3rd.

I'm not saying Bill should try to save that 3rd at any cost, i'm just hoping the DB depth chart will be so good that Rowe won't be the CB#2 nor the primary nickel back. By the way, i'm not a betting man when it comes to Bill Belichick's Patriots since I know an unexpected trade can happen anytime and upset all the odds...

I can see the idiots from other fan bases whining already... "Pats have two guys who look exactly the same, cheatriots!!! Not fair!!! Goodell needs to DO SOMETHING about this!!!"

Why not? Rowe played extremely well most of the time,he's young with a great skill set. Butler/Gilmore/Rowe gives you tremendous flexibility as all 3 can really play just about anywhere. Would also be great tho if one or both of the Joneses stepped up.

What team are you an NFL scout or GM for

If you're going to make dumb posts, you should back them up. Can you tell me what type of system Sherman plays in,what are his strengths and weaknesses and the same of Butler?

I didn't think so. Who plays more man? Why do you think there's no takers for sherman yet ?

Move Chung to starting LB next to Hightower, convert JMcC to strong saftey (hes' bigger that DMcC). Have dominant defense.

So what about chung, who's one of the best SS in the league?

He starts at ILB. I don't know if he's "one of the best SS in the league".

OK i reread your post. Marquis, whoever the starting SS is for the Pats is going to play a lot of lb- that is becoming true of most teams now since every team is in some form of nickel or dime on most plays. I don't see Jason doing that
