Martellus Bennett Goes On Epic Twitter Rant About "Educational" Touchdown Celebration Video

Bennett had 7 TDs last year and, ironically, I cannot honestly remember him hotdogging it much after any of 'em.
I get the impression he's standing on principle with this stuff, and I for one find it tough to blame him.

Actually, it looks like someone else's face, but I don't want the thread to go political or anything........

While what Martellus wrote is funny, he's clearly hypocritical. He wants to maximize his $$$, talked about teams overpaying for him after his Superbowl win, made fun of people telling him to give a home-team discount etc.......... and now criticizes the NFL for doing everything it can to maximize its revenues. The only motive behind every NFL decision is to maximize its own revenues. They are officiating touchdown celebrations so as not to alienate certain viewers. He criticizes the NFL for maximizing their revenue potential at the expense of all other considerations, when he does the same himself.

Not to mention the whole "biting the hand that feeds you" thing going on here. He won't be getting the $$ he is if the cap hadn't been raised, which wouldn't have happened if NFL wasn't maximizing its revenues. Hence his post is hypocritical.

But it was still funny, so whatever I guess.

There's better ways to maximize the team's revenues than th clamp down on excessive celebrations, especially when there's a handful of players whose celebrations are worth tuning in to see. I have to think that Ochocinco's touchdown routines helped keep Bengal fans' eyes on the tube through some highly mediocre seasons, for example.

Hopefully as time goes on we'll have fewer and fewer articles about what this motormouth has to say. He's a tedious bore.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him a tedious bore, but he definitely flaps his gums too much. He comes across as a salesman pitching his wares.

I've never cared much for TD celebrations other than a good spike. I prefer the 'act like you've been there before ' attitude, especially with a team game like football.

But for every one like you there's one who likes to see players rub it in a bit. Catering to you isn't the best way to maximize audience.

Bill's gonna be pissed.

I watched an instructional video for work. I was 16 getting my first job at McDonalds and it was completely stupid then. Giving a video to a room full of grown adults about how they should and shouldn't do something is stupid.

I would Gronk spike that video in front of the person trying to give it to me then do a celebration dance that would give me 15 yards.

But catering to those who like to see ass wipes and crotch grabs doesn't gain a thing. Both groups are going to watch no matter what.

Come on, lets all agree that the only thing NFL cares for is $$$. They wouldn't be clamping down on TD celebrations unless they felt it helps the bottom line. Excessive celebrations likely alienates viewers. The "pooping" celebration being an obvious example.

Yes, they might feel that way but are they right? Personally I doubt it. Unless a touchdown celly is so bad that it offends the sponsors, I can't make myself see a problem.

Do fans stay glued to the screen to see this? Do sponsors want to see this?

Remember what Moss said after he was fined? "What's $10k to me. Next time I might shake my di*k". Would you object then?

Still like Gronk's Beefeater celebration in London a few year ago.. Subtle, appropriate and not over the top....And I could see Marty moving over to TV after his playing days are over...

Actually you both could be correct but I'll just take that over to the alt-site patsfanspofo

To me there are 5 kinds of celebrations 4 I like and 1 I can't stand, ranked in order

1. The all time best bar none Barry sanders.
2. The kind that get fans involved like the Lambough leap
3. Team wide choreographed ones like the fun bunch
4. Classic iconic ones like the Gronk spike
5. Self promoting look at me I am the best flexing strutting chest beating garbage.

I have no issue with people being excited about scoring and wanting to celebrate it. I just want you to remember you did not do it alone and it's not your stage to promote how great you are. I also have no issue with you preplanning it IF it involves your team or fans. Then it strikes me as more fun and less annoying/arrogant/self centered. At the end of the day it's a game and games are supposed to be fun.

I might gets some disagrees, but I gotta say how I feel. I'm not a big fan of Marty. He comes off as "I'm smarter and more talented than you". IMO. He's a good player. I just didn't see him being Pats material. And I think his remarks are going to come back and bite him in the ass. The NFL deserves to get all the ridicule they get, but they rule the roost. We, as Pats fans, know that all too well. I'm not missing him at all.

I have to agree. A little pseudo-intellectual at times. Sure I've laughed and agreed with some things he's said before, but I also find the whole "I'm creative! I'm creative! Be creative! My brand!" shtick throughout the last year to be pretentious and contrived.

Which sort of reminds me of Edelman telling the Steelers CB in Mic'd Up: "The fact you have to keep talking about it means you're not." (paraphrasing)
