Jason La Canfora: Revis return to Patriots looking increasingly likely

No one is saying he would be the #1 CB but he sure as hell would make a great #2 or #3 CB

Can't wait to embrace the hate from Cup Cake Land. He won't disrespect the Patriots like he did with those fools. He'll get back in shape and ready for prime time again.

This is a media story in the middle of the season of used car salesman like tactics for buying/selling (story plants, made up, clickbait). I have my doubts if this is true based on the suspicion the fire needed to play a season of NFL football is no longer with Revis.
However, if the story has some truth and Revis wanted specifically to come back to the Patriots? That means the fire is there. Revis knows the drill here -- hard! friggin! work! where winning is the first, second and third most important rule. And if that is the case and the price is right, I'm perplexed why some would be against this. A former superstar veteran as part of the CB group (where he is on the pyramid will be based how well he plays) provides fantastic potential.

We have the horses up front to stop the run, we have High back and some not uninteresting 'stuff' at LB. In the backfield is McCourty, Chung, Harmon, the high paid FNG, possibly Butler for a year, a couple of other newbys who may be on the cusp on taking a step forward -- then add a still hungry Revis, along with offense with an upper echelon FNG WR, likely a nicely added upgrade piece at RB, some money in the bank, TB and BB?
At this point us fans should be ecstatic over the possibilities for 2017. Nothing is in ink until the games are played but the rough sketches in pencil look good! And a Revis that still can play at decent level makes the sketches that much nicer.

I didn't watch him last year, but I suspect the slot is Revis' best chance. He might have lost a step or two of speed, but has he lost his quickness?

Late reply.

Apart from the obvious worries about how he consistently avoided contact last year I just don't see him going inside for a very pragmatic reason. If he decides to come to Foxboro it is to rebuilt his image and maybe find another sucker to pay him in a year. For that he needs to be an outside corner. I don't buy any "this is about football and winning" ******** from him or his people. If he plays this year for cheap it will be in hope of one more payday ahead.

As long as he helps us win another Championship while he's leveraging us to polish up his image, then I'm fine with it

My point is that his people are bringing this up so the media talks about him while no one in NE has even talked to them.

After talking about not having it anymore.. and getting beat last year alot.. That's more than just a weight issue. He has a heart issue. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.. unless he plays for small dollars like 2 mil and heavily incentive-laden contract. I question his toughness, his will. I doubt BB would take a chance on that unless there was a very small risk reward.

I can't believe the Pats couldn't find a younger player for the same money, one with potential for development and offering the prospect of sticking long-term if all goes well. With Revis, it's downhill from here, and inescapably short term.

Plus, he's a jackass.

What a terrible "report."

A few guys who aren't connected to the team think something might happen, and LaCanfora writes that makes it more likely?

Did I miss a rule change vote? Are our roster decisions now based on a league-wide vote? If enough people on other teams vote yes, we are obligated to sign a player???

Look, it might happen. But it isn't more likely just because of what some guys outside the building think.

Only if Butler21 leaves.

Sources tell me jj watt and aj green are interested in joining the patriots.

See jason. Anyone can do it

If Butler leaves

Draft Sidney Jones and redshirt him

Sign Revis as one year stop gap

2018 --> Gilmore + S. Jones

"Increasingly Likely" = went from 0% to 5% possibility. Isn't technically wrong.

All you guys worried about the salary, if this were to happen: remember, the Jets pay him the balance up to $6M. He'd not going to get more the $6M from anyone (I think), so there's no reason to pay him more than the League minimum.

Nobody is worried about the salary but his lazy ass performances in the last 1.5 years. It is very similar to Jamie Collins where his lone presence on the roster became a detriment.

If he plays for the vet minimum and gets himself in shape, sure why not?

Really?

I just don't see the fit.. unless it is for very, very cheap..

If he is ready to play for veteran minimum pay...

Well he gets $6 million for sitting home paid for by Mr. Johnson, so a $1 million contract means he gets $6 million, 5 of which are paid for by the Jets....

i really hope not. I feel that money could be better spent on another corner

Playing on a vet minimum deal...

A cheap, in shape and motivated Revis would be great...

If you get him at a price where there is not much if any guaranteed money in case he needs to be cut during camp then there is no reason not to kick the tires. Can't ignore a player like him if you get him for peanuts.

For the veteran minimum and him wanting to redeem himself after last season, why not give him a shot?

Revis will cost us $1M (and the Jets $5M). Our #2/3 corner may be a by-committee approach depending on the matchup. Revis might play half the snaps and still be able to contribute just fine.

1. They would have to be convinced that the REASON Revis is playing is to reestablish his legacy in the NFL and NOT for the money. The only way I think he can do that is to play for the $6MM. In other words sign for the league minimum and let the Jets pay the rest. THAT would prove to a team he is motivated by all the right reasons.

...just to have a guy on the Roster who is being paid $5 or so million, depending on the deal, by the Jets to play for the Patriots. That would be pretty darn close to "Christmas in March" territory.

I personally don't want him here but this is a pure business decision. If BB thinks he'd be great value for a vet minimum...
