Butler & Saints working towards finalizing a deal (Thread now UFC Pats Fans Event)

So if you are BB, you say, if you want him, sweeten the pot, i.e. add say a 2nd and 3rd, or have Butler sign the offer sheet. Seems to me that BB is holding the cards (doesn't mean he will play them).

Yep -BB/Pats hold the cards. Either they get what BB wants in a trade (either now or after Butler signs the tender) or MB is playing here next year for $3.9M.

Butler the newest former Patriot to be slandered on the way out for no reason.
Butler could get a Cajun quickie wedding in today in order to satisfy the new Pats edict and alleviate Reiss' worries.
Mega-bachelor Gronk could throw a post-wedding Bachelor party and invite all the soon to be terminated Pats bachelors not named Gronk/Edelman/ Amendola

Butler for #32 is absolute bullschitt...top 10 corner in the league and they're dumping him for what assuredly will become a 2017 second and fourth rounder a a 2018 third? C'mon.....

Makes you wonder if he has other plans in mind for the franchise tag next season...

I know everyone's insinuating Garoppolo and it may be true. That said, remember that Nate Solder's contract is up after the season. Outside analysts and our draft forum experts have rated this a poor draft for tackles overall. Great LTs rarely reach free agency, so we would be hard pressed to replace Solder if it comes to it. Franchise tag will likely be $15M+ in 2018 if necessary.

The chances of them actually getting the #11 pick are remote. Don't take RFA rules too literally. Usually what happens is teams work out a different agreement.

The most likely outcome is that the Saints and Patriots already agreed to the parameters of the deal at the time of the Cooks trade. They will probably give us the #32 pick back.

Do you have examples of this?

BB is not stupid but he is oftentimes impetuous and dumps people for less than
their actual value: see Easley, Collins, and Chandler Jones. He might dump Butler
to his buddy Payton for 10 cents on the dollar. Minimum value should be the Patriots
get the picks back that they traded for Cooks or the 32nd pick back plus a #2 next year.

Are you as big of a loser in real life as you project yourself on here? You are truly embarrassing yourself with every ridiculous pathetic post you make you sad pathetic old loser..

Guys, be real. BB and Sean Payton are tight...if the Saints can get Butler to agree to a deal they like, BB is not going to screw them by requiring him to sign the tender so the Pats can get the Saints first-round pick, and he won't match the offer.. No one would ever do business with BB again; I'm sure the agreement is that if the Saints get the price they want for Butler, he will be there via trade. For what? The Patriots are NOT getting the 11th overall pick. Belichick would trade Butler to the Saints for something much less than that, I think a second round pick at best, or maybe something like a third and a fifth. See the Wes Welker deal; teams were able to work out a trade rather than using the tender obligations.

Butler would have to sign the tender, because he's not technically under contract, so the Patriots can't trade him, in your scenario.

Just keep him and get a 3rd next year.

I'd rather have a lights out secondary en route to another Super Bowl victory than weakening a defensive position for a late first.

I'd tell him flat out: We're not trading you, so sign the tender and play for your big contract next offseason or sit out a year and be forced to sign the tender next year. The choice is yours, but you will be a Patriot for one more season.

Ugh wish it was #11 but doubtful. We could grab another CB at that spot.

If he signs their offer sheet they Saints don't have a choice. Pats get #11.

I agree with you but I think BB wants the #11 pick instead.

With that said if he copps a Collins, BB will dump him at the trade deadline anyway.

Thats basically how BB dealt with Asante in the 2007 offseason with the difference being BB slapped him with the franchise tag.

You don't want a player unhappy with this kind of situation, BB's MO says he doesn't deal with problems, he gets rid of them.

But they can do a sign-and-trade, correct? He signs the tender, they give him the Saints deal and trade him to the Saints. Maybe I misunderstood the process, but same end result.

Do you really have to be so over-the-top and insulting with people you disagree with?

There are two ways.
1) Butler signs the NE tender, NE trades Butler to NO. Butler and NO tear up the contract and execute the pre-arranged contract.
2) Butler and NE sign contract identical to what Butler worked out with NO. NE trades Butler to NO.

I think "sending" teams tend to go with (1) since that prevents them from being screwed by the other team.

And the CBA pr

Thank you for clarifying. I think you'll agree with me that the Saints will not be giving up the #11 overall pick for Butler, and this is fantasy thinking from some people. I don't think they will get #31 back either, since Cooks still has two affordable years left on his contract, whereas Butler would have none, and Cooks is a better player.

Getting a second round pick back would be best case scenario, and I'm skeptical about that; I believe it is #43 overall. Maybe a second with the Pats giving a late round pick back, or a third? What do you think, QM?

OK, so now it's starting to seem like NOLA is confident they'll be able to agree to terms with Patriots

I hope Bill doesn't settle for simply the #32 pick...I hope he goes for NOLA's #11

They can, but that's where the Patriots leverage is. They certainly don't have to.
