Butler visiting Saints

Given the Saints cap issues, which are interesting to say the least, plus the fact that I STILL haven't heard a single quote from Butler himself that would lead me to believe his is pissed, angry, or otherwise determined to leave NE, I think it is more likely for him to stay rather than leave.

Hightower has gone on his "search for dollars" tour and no one made a big deal about it because it it was expected. He earned his right to be a FA, and deserved the right to see what was out there. Butler going to NO is much the same. They obviously have an interest in him, and he SHOULD go out and explore what the market for his services actually are, under his current contract situation.
p
It is possible that he goes to NO for some sort of draft pick package, sure. But I'm not convinced its some sort of done deal, or a continuation of the Cooks deal. Thus I find myself pissed at the CONTINUAL reporting of speculation as if it were fact.

Why can't we just keep him this year then give him his big contact next year when he's a UFA?

Best of both worlds, we get him for "cheaper" this year and if we pay him big next year, we're no longer overpaying a RFA.

Pisses me off how bad we're trying to get rid of a top 5 CB in the league who has been the ultimate Patriot while here.

Watch them go block buster and shock everyone

Trade Brees to another team.

And pay us crazy like 11, 32, and next years first and this years second for JAG and Butler.
What would be the cap hit if they did that, $20 million???

Id trade up if need be for Jones worth the risk.

Interestingly, while at the gym yesterday I had NFL*N on the treadmill and saw the results of a mock draft.

Not sure who made it, but it had Mitch Trubisky going #32 to the Saints.

Watson went to the Chargers, but no other QBs in 1st round.

Not looking good for butler staying here....

He has a clueless agent that is severely out of his depth. Especially after how he didn't move off of $9.5m per last year when the Pats offered $7m per. Guy wanted the Pats to rip up 2 low cost controlled years and the Pats were actually willing yet he wouldn't come down from $9.5m. If the Pats counter was $7m, it means they were likely willing to go to $8m. Pretty much common law in the nfl that is you are ripping up a rookie deal for a new one, you take a little less than what you really want or you just wait until UFA.
If your only evidence that this agent is "clueless" and "out of his depth" is that he turned down an offer of $7M per year, then you got nothing.

If the Saints submit an offer sheet for 6/56, the Patriots very well might match it.

But why would you? 11th pick is more valuable...

Why wouldn't Butler's agent not get him other offers from other teams?

More valuable than a Pro Bowl CB under contract at $9.5 mil, about $6million under top-of-the-market value?

I'm not too sure about that.

I'm not saying the Patriots WOULD match (because of the 6 years), but it's certainly possible. 6/56 is a good number.

If Butler wants 12-13m per yr, Saints won't go for that.

This is how the trade will die and Butler will wait till 2018
