Patriots sign Rex Burkhead

Unless the money tells a different story, I'm assuming the only guy this affects is Bolden. I wouldn't expect him to break into the Lewis/White/big back committee unless there's an injury.
You're probably gonna be disappointed.
He didn't sign here to ride the pine

He actually looks alike Edelman in the highlight reels. Kind of a wild shifty style.

What does this guy do that James White doesn't again?

He's not a James White replacement. His initial role is likely Brandon Bolden's. Someone who can be a decent power-back if the lead power-back gets injured, has a little bit of value in the receiving game, and is a special teams ace. Basically, it's likely comparable on special teams and a huge upgrade to Bolden on offense.

Of course, we have yet to see the money. It's possible they're giving him lead power-back money, in which case we'll see how it works out.

Woodhead replacement? Now just bring back Bolden and we are set.

Is there room for Bolden? They carried 4 RBs last year and 5 in 2014. (plus Devlin at FB each year)

2017?... White, Lewis, Burkhead, Bolden, Blount (or drafted RB instead)

Foster to practice squad again? I feel like he may be useful in replacing White or Lewis if 1 or both walk in free agency after next year.

Plays special teams.

Thank you for your service, Brandon Bolden.
^^ this

a 4-team special teams ace, who COULD play offense in a pinch, but who is unlikely IMO to be a replacement for ANY of Blount, White, or Lewis, unless there were an injury or more likely MULTIPLE injuries.

Not to not pick, but he offers way more than a little value in the receiving game.

Posters have wanted Bolden gone for years. Perhaps the two time champ is finally being replaced. Interesting signing regardless : maybe he plays for than Bolden did as well as play on STs.

Scrappy gym rat, effort guy, first one in, last one out

Glad he's here though for real. Hope he wasn't a flash in the pan last year. Even if he was, gonna be a good ST guy. Bolden seems to be done here. Don't think this move has anything to do with Blount.

I like this if he's replacing Bolden.

Just throwing this out there, based on no special information at all:

With Ebner and King basically being ST only guys like Bolden, those are other players who could, theoretically, be in trouble.
