Uh oh
I'm actually kinda fine with that. Love Donta but I didn't want to give him Luke Kueckly money.

Already did itThis is amazing. Butler and Gilmore with DMC roaming around. We could potentially have the #1 defense
There is also the root for the underdog effect as well as the love of the guy who made the game ending play in the SB.There is the attachment aspect and that Butler is a homegrown talent...but if the return is Gilmore and Cooks or Gilmore and a first...hard to be distraught about that.
Of course I'd prefer Malcolm stay on board for another season. We'd have one of if not the best secondary in the league.
Best secondary in team history next season

Exactly this. The SBLI match ups support your point.Gilmore gives the Pats that big CB to take on the elite big receivers in the League. Ryan did a good job with many of them, but he ain't Gilmore in that respect.
I feel like Hightower is a goner. Thing is, good as he is, he is used very much to his strengths here. I think elsewhere he'll be asked to do too much and be a bust. He's got a very specific role here and it fits him perfectly. Also, he's been playing hurt for like 3 years now. A lot of wear and tear, could be like Mayo all over again.
