Happy for Fleming. Really like the kid.

Makes sense given he's probably the swing tackle at the moment. Originally drafted in the 4th round so that's the carrot if the Pats lose him.

Accurate?

Good as Gone:

Bennett
Ryan
Long
Blount
Sheard

50/50

Hightower
Harmon

Looks good

Branch

No idea

Floyd

Sounds pretty accurate from what we've been hearing, for what that's all worth.

If Blount is gone, it's because the pats want to move on - that piece about him getting an offer they wouldn't match seemed like permission to him to move on with grace, or it was ********.

I don't think he's good as gone - maybe 75-25 that he leaves.

Bennett might find the market thinner than he thinks, but I expect he's gone.

If the reports on Ryan are true (9-11 aav), he'll probably be back with the Pats in 2-3 years, depending on how stupidly his contract is configured.

Long is gone. Sheard seems to be, so yeah.

OL didn't lose a step when Fleming came in for Solder and Cannon.
He was not shown much for the others to jump, probably.
Pats know what they have.

I don't think Bennett gets close to $9 million per year, unless it's baked into a long-term deal that looks great but means nothing. He'll probably get a Greg Olsen deal with $12M to $15M guaranteed and some incentives based on games played and other performance incentives.

Yes, now I understand more clearly.

My thoughts:

I put Butler more in the middle of #1 corners, but that's not a huge difference.
Whether PFF had him 1st or 100th would mean nothing to me, because they are 100% useless.

The RFA is an interesting dynamic. I think what is most likely is that no one would give up a 1st for any RFA. But if they were willing to Butler would reject a lowball offer. This is why the scenario I was discussing is basically impossible.

I think what should and hopefully will happen is this.
Butler is tendered for 4 mill. Both sides will watch what corners sign for. If the top corner in FA this year gets 14 mill for 5 years, that is Butler comparison. Understanding that signing today is in Butler best interest as it reduces risk, he would take slightly less than 5 at 14 plus the 4 this year, and sign for say, 6 for 72. That gives him 5 years at 13.6 added to his 4 mill this year. Essentially he cashes in a year early.
The Patriots then will have the ability to put as much or little of the hit into this years cap number.
Yeah that makes sense the more I think about it. If they did that they could re-sign Ryan at about $8-9MM (if he's willing) and it would screw up the salary structure of having Bulter making a lot less than the #2 guy regardless of who he is.

BTW- PFT announce that the Pats tendered all their RFA's today, EXCEPT Butler which leads to suspect that they are currently working hard on the like of extention you just discussed...or some other contract. They must be working on some kind of deal otherwise they would have just slapped the 1st round tender on him, because that's a no brainer.

When is the tender deadline?

9 mill is crazy for Bennett.
If that's what teams will pay for a guy pretty much no one else wanted (we got him for a 5th) then these increasing cap numbers are going to further separate teams like the Patriots who are financially disciplined from the drunken sailor spenders, not close the gap.

When is the tender deadline?
Damned, I was afraid you'd ask that question. I read what it was yesterday, but I'm once again a victim of a failing memory. Thursday at 4pm is the date that comes to mind, but I could be wrong.

EDIT: But I'm not - a simple google search turned up the corrected date 3/9 4pm So basically I'm admitting I was to lazy to look it up before.

Interesting that they haven't tendered Butler. Why not do it anyway? Very curious, although my impression is info drips out of Foxboro, it doesn't gush, so it is entirely possibly they have already tendered him but the announcement has not come yet.

Well we won't have to wait too long for the answer. Thursday is just 2 days away.

BTW- If they were simply going to tag him and wait for the market to reveal itself, they would have just added his name with the rest. No I think they are working on something that would pay him more money this season than the $4MM the tag would bring. At any rate, by this time Thursday we should have an answer

They may be trying hard to extend him. He might really get his nose out of joint
if the Patriots signed another defensive back for more than 3.9 million.

I don't know. As Miguel said there is no advantage to tendering early, nor late.
I think its just a coincidence and means nothing, because whether or not they tender him has no impact on negotiations, and of course they aren't going to non-tender him.

I wonder if the Patriots delayed too long and lost Branch?
