Which is exactly why I never begrudge a good player from getting as much as he can at contract time. As you observe, their careers can end on the Practice Field (or on a ski slope or the stairs to their basement).OK, but so what? In the NFL, every player is one play away from being done, and that play doesn't even need to happen in a game.
If the Bears go and draft Trubiski, the the only one that MIGHT benefit will be the new HC and GM that follow Fox. Drafting a QB that he KNOWS isn't ready to win in the NFL next year would just be DUMB.The bears can go ahead and draft trubitzky
if that's his name lol. The 49ers can go ahead and draft kizer or whoever. Those guys ain't jimmy G

He can magically make a guy stay who isn't under contract?That's why bill's the gm and you're not.
From Rapoport on the thought process:
@RyanHannable
Adam Schefter on @OMFonWEEI: "Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be on the Patriots in 2017 no matter who calls them and what anybody offers."
You know he can get stronger right? Gain some muscle. You will be dissapointed when he's not traded. These teams will not fleece bill. I think they value jimmy alot more than you think.

You keep repeating the claim that a top fifteen pick isn't high value, name the last time a backup was traded for a top fifteen pick?
True. My point's that tom's already hitting that age when QBs dip somewhat. Maybe he's a different breed but i still don't buy the notion that he will play 5 years. I am thinking 2.
I agree. I thought Brissett was terrible. I just rewatched the Houston game. He absolutely sucked. He was the beneficiary of great field position several times. The only good thing you can really say is he didn't turn it over and picked up some good gains running the ball. He didn't complete ANY passes over 10 yards in the air and ALL of his completions were from behind the LOS to 5 yards.
Yes I know, they limit the playbook, etc., but he sucked. if he's the starter (God Forbid) the Pats are 6-10 if they're lucky. Oh, and don't get me started on how piss poor he was vs Buffalo....

Are you clueless? He's a backup with franchise potential and you wanna give him up for a top 15 pick when QB's the most important position in football. I think you just see him as another hoyer or cassel. Maybe bill doesn't see it that way.
He's a backup
with franchise potential
And you are basing that on one thing and one thing only, his age. And you are completely disregarding everything else about Brady, despite the fact that he has been a top five player in the NFL each of the last five years, he's been getting better each of the last three seasons, and he was the best player in football this season. At the same time you are acting as if they are trading a franchise QB when Garrapolo has only played six quarters in his career. A top fifteen pick is high value for any backup QB and next year is Garrapolos last season in New England, period. They would be foolish to pass on that kind of return for a backup QB.
Yes
Well, that's one of the big questions, as opposed to a certainty, isn't it?
