If we don't tag Hightower... Will you get a bit nervous?

Yeah, you make some excellent points regarding the need to field a team and I realize that, but I'm simply pointing out that people who think that Bill Belichick is going to spend (approx) 65m dollars this offseason aren't likely to be correct.

It isn't about how stacked I think we are, but more of an opinion that everything can be addressed while still leaving options open down the road by carrying money over. Belichick is going to carry money over (IMO). How much is the real debate.
I think he will use most of it. If you slot Hightower(10 as a rough cap #)butler(12 he will get rfa offers im sure)branch(6), Ryan(6) Harmon(4), sheard/long(5), Bennett (6)or their replacement that quick estimate is 49 right there. Pay the draft class, add 5-7 backups and we are pushing 60 mill.

What you may see more if are sheard type deals where the annual is higher but the term shorter.

They have that amount because they wanted to lock Cj, Ht and Collins IMO.

They have a price they're willing to pay, and that's why CJ left. Collins was a surprise cut.

They will always spend the money WISELY. And that's why they will never be in cap hell.

This year is not gonna be different IMO: E.g. Jared Odrick. They will no pay Sheard 7-8m+ but they pay Odrick 4.5m+.

I love DEPTH.
It sounds like you're pretty much agreeing with me, so I'm not sure what the issue is?

I understand what you're saying, Andy. I think our difference of opinion lies mainly in the replacement cost for those players that you list.

I can get behind the idea that some of the costs will be the same, but I can't get behind the idea that all of these players will have comparable cap hits. Some will be replaced with draft picks, some with lesser cap hits, etc. That is likely why we differ on about 12-15m dollars.

Well I'm sure it won't be player for player equal cap hits. But given that the money is available it will be used to build the best team.
Are you really suggesting BB will not use 15 mill of cap room and not field the best team he can?
Why would he do that?

To carry it over again and continue to keep his best options available, both for the immediate and distant future.

How much did we start this season with for the opener? Around 7-8 million, I think. Why is it so difficult for you to envision this being bumped up a bit due to the fact that so much more money is available to a team trying to win its 3rd SB in 4 years?

It's not like they're a team in rebuilding mode. They have more holes than many years, but they also have much more money than usual.

Not an issue at all. I am just saying that they will spend the money wisely. Even if the carry over is less than 10m they will always be in great shape, because they don't overpay. Just that.

Because part of the reason to not spend all of the cap is to leave an in season cushion. Choosing to leave excess money on the table seems negligent. What is more important about next year?
I don't think you appreciate all of the needs this team has and what it will cost.
Winning 2 of 3 SBs does nothing for the 2017 team, which currently is missing about 7 starters and 10 other contributors from that SB team.
I would get your argument if we were bringing back an in tact team but we are not even close to that.

It's just a game.....they could lose every free agent and I will sleep like a baby

To me, it is pretty exciting to watch new players make and impact

I see this playing our like it did with McCourty. they let him test the market and give him a good last offer to stay. The patriots generally have a very good handle on the market. perhaps Hightower wants higher than market value right now so they are saying, go out see what you can get and we can see if we will match.

the question is, like McCourty will Hightower give patriots last refusal.

we all remember when the patriots offered welker 6million. he went out looking for 10million. and the market ended up paying him exactly what the pats offered at 6million.
