Bennett - could build brand in Boston area

At what cost? A lot of money needs to be spent on the other side of the ball.

Bennett is aging and wasn't "devastating" by any stretch of the imagination

On his own, while Gronk was injured, he was very effective even though he played injured. With Gronk the two TE sets had the potential of being devastating.

I don't think we need that. Not for 10+ per year

10+ a year? GTFO

I agree with some of your thoughts that he'll likely move on, but no one is going to pay him 10+ a year.

I don't think he needs any advice. I think he already has wheels turning. And frankly I don't get the hate on the guy on here and elsewhere. Clearly he is ready to make an impact on kids off the field. Read some of his tweets:

If he wants to do things like this in Boston proper especially, that type of thing should be lauded and applauded.

Agreed, IMHO it is very admirable. He is kind of a football version of a Renaissance man, interested in Art Centers, Computer Coding Centers, and his passion for writing in general and writing children's books specifically is well known. Good for him.

I don't know how likely it is, but I hope he stays, I really like the guy.

You may be right. I'm not very good when it comes to salary cap or contract issues.

But having Bennett last season was a Godsend with Gronk being injured. Having both of them on the field next year would be fun to watch. If they can both stay on the field that is. We'll see.

Just go back and look at how he was moving before the injury. You'll find your answer there.

Wow that's very fun to watch, thanks!

Watching the passes that worked in quick succession like that -
a) the game seems so smooth and easy
b) you can often see the vulnerability in the defense that the passing game was exploiting, because they kept going back to that same matchup / area repeatedly.

On topic:

I'd love for Bennett to stay and see the results of a full season with Brady throwing to a healthy Gronk & Bennett.

Easy to wish for optimal outcomes, but it's the offseason!

That's what the franchise number is, no?
Apologies if you were suggesting that the Pats would franchise him, although I'd still have to think that VERY unlikely. Gronk's cap hit will be what, like 7m dollars or something? It's hard to see how Bennett sees more than that, particularly on a team where guys like Edelman and Hogan are making around 4m dollars.

My response was based on the idea that you were suggesting an outside team paying him 10+ million dollars. I never really even considered the idea of franchising Bennett, although I know others have. I would have a hard time imagining Belichick offering that kind of deal, that's all.

Bennett is a devestating blocker and a sure handed receiver.
Keep the Beast

Bennett already turned down 7mil from us

He won't be here. He's not even close to Gronk in terms of skills, and wants Gronk money. Let him build his brand somewhere else while someone else comes here and focuses on football.

That said, I trust BB to do what is right. But if you saw the interview with him after the SB, it is clear he is going after the big bucks, and...if you are a Patriots fan I don't need to finish that sentence.

Yes, that's what was reported, although we have no idea as to whether or not it was longer-term or a one year deal. We also have no idea as to the specifics such as guaranteed money, etc.

For the record, I'm not suggesting that 7m dollars should be the cap because that's what Gronk's is this year. I'm simply stating that it's hard to envision him getting much more than that.
