Probably the most hilarious thread you'll read on any opposing team's message board

I think an L of that magnitude would scramble the senses of any fanbase. The fact that the Atlanta fanbase is particularly inexperienced and ignorant doesn't help. Half of them don't even know the rules of the sport so conspiracy theories seep in through the cracks.

Someone should post this burn in that Falcons thread

With all due respect, these are Southerners you are talking about. They may not be true blue Falcons fans, but they know football. They just bleed for the Georgia Dawgs. Even our womenfolk can expound at length about the Cover 2 zone defense.

Maybe they can all chip in and get a participation banner for Ryan. The Colts could hook them up with who they deal with...

Not the ones that I've come across who have no idea where the endzone begins or any idea of what "breaking the plane" actually meant. Maybe I ran into a particularly idiotic small sample size

You definitely did. The NFL is littered with mostly talent from the south. These people eat, sleep, and breathe football. They know what they're saying is idiotic. They're just butthurt. We had posters here in 2015 that know football but would go full ****** spout off absolute nonsense about how the game on the field was fixed against the Pats and the officials were being instructed to screw the team. Those complaints always came after the late season losses. Surprisingly, you didn't hear a whole lot of that this year.

When did he say this? I've feel like I've seen it forever.

It was 2009. A couple of articles:
Bill Belichick: ‘Stats Are For Losers’
Belichick defends Moss, slams Panthers

Bill Belichick is anything but a war-of-words coach, but what Chris Gamble and Chris Harris said yesterday about Randy Moss changed that. Given multiple chances to defend Randy Moss and his effort Sunday, Bill Belichick spoke about the respect he has for Moss in general. He got specific about Panthers cornerbacks who accused Moss of loafing yesterday. “My response is, that’s a lot of conversation coming from a team that just lost another game,” Belichick said.

I wonder how much stuff like this could help explain why Moss still has so much love for New England.

If Amendola doesn't get that extra half inch and squeak into the endzone on the 2 point conversion, threads like that would appear here, and be laughed at by the 5 diehard Atlanta fans in their forum.

He got nearly the entire ball across the white line, which means that he was at least a foot and a half into the end zone.

This is the problem with people judging purely quarterback rating is it can punish a good play like throwing the ball away more than taking dumb sacks which Ryan did plenty of in the 2nd half of the Super Bowl.

All you have to do is watch the game, Matt Ryan had at least 4-5 separate chances to put this game away in the 4th Quarter and came up small it doesn't matter what the numbers say, everyone saw it.

Sometimes the eye test is all you need.

Falcons fans remind me so much of Panthers fans last year who acted like despite losing the Super Bowl Cam Newton and the Panthers was about to dominate football for a long time, no guarantees the Falcons even win 8 games this year.

Matt Ryan made two of the worst plays any player has ever made when trying to defend a 4th quarter lead in the Super Bowl.

I dont know what he could have done better given the fact that he doesnt call the plays. On the first one, he got rid of the ball almost immediately after the 7 step drop, but hightower was already on top of him due to a missed block outside his field of vision. On the second one, the pressure came quick up the middle and he couldnt get outside the pocket. His options at the point were 1. Throw into coverage 2. Take an intentional grounding penalty or 3. Take the sack. Are you saying he made a bad play by not throwing into coverage on that play? Really, what could he have done differently?

Maybe the Falcons should put up a Super Bowl QBR Championship banner.

The OP on the Falcons board seems to think Ryan's stats were achieved by Ryan alone, and attributes everything else to someone else. Apparently the Pats' W is a team stat so it doesn't count, but Ryan's YPA has absolutely nothing to do with his receivers, his coaches, the rest of the Falcons' O, or the Pats' D.

Reminds me of Duquette back in the day boasting about how long his Red Sox spent in first place before melting down.

But whatever, different people watch for different reasons. Some teams, some years, deliberately or not, are built to maximize one silly stat or another. I hope that guy enjoys Ryan's Super Bowl QBR. The Brady-era Pats have consistently and successfully prioritized W over other stats, and that works for me.
