Seems like a likely fit. Which means...who is next up to replace Joshy?

another link in the pipeline!

Was supposedly next in line after Josh. Who is next man up now ?

That'll make a lot of people on this board happy, knowing he is likely next in line to replace Josh.

Also makes me wonder if there's something about how McDaniels' 49er interview and subsequent decision went, that makes the team and Daboll think that McDaniels is sticking around for the long-term (whatever that is in the NFL). That is to say, long enough that Daboll thinks he will never get a realistic shot of being OC here and decided to explore his options again.

You mean as TE coach or as McD replacement ? The latter would be Chad O'Shea most probably. TE coach will be someone from further down the pecking order.

I wouldn't read too much into that in terms of McDaniels. Bama OC is a great opportunity and also most probably better paid position.

Boo...Boo guys lets not kid ourselves this is definitely McDaniels last year as OC of the Patriots I thought Daboll was being groomed for the position next man up???

What is a bit related but goes under right now is that apparently the 49ers are hiring Salah from the Jaguars as defensive coordinator:

Why is it relevant ? Because some beat reporters were writing that Brian Flores (LB coach) was also a hot candidate for that position. He could be next in line as DC if Patricia moves on after this season (or gets banished from the NFL for wearing that shirt).

McDaniels is going to have many Opportunities 2018 Marvin Lewis last shot in Cincinnati Andy Dalton decent QB.

JohnHarbaugh might be on last legs in Baltimore Jump ball Joe decent QB.

Chuck Pagano Colts this gotta be his last hoorah he has had many chances Andrew Look Great young QB still in his prime.

John Fox Chicago Bears this gotta be it for now old John game might have passed him by.

Jim Caldwell Detriots Lions made Playoffs but look like they had no business there. Matt Stafford still in his mid prime.

Sean Payton what have you done for me lately the NFL stands for Not For Long. I think Sean Payton's leash don't extend beyond 2017 If the Saints miss the Playoffs. Drew Brees in twilight of career gulp.

San Diego maybe not...but then again Rivers approaching twilight of career.

McDaniels will be the Hottest commodity in 2018 I think he will have some Good Options.

If there ever was a real Patriots/Star Wars mash-up Daboll would be Jar Jar...

George Godsey used to be our TE coach, I wonder if Bill would bring him back in that role if Daboll left.

Firing Payton for McDaniels would be ridiculous, the problem is Loomis can't draft worth ****. Payton is overrated but he's certainly not their biggest problem right now.

McDaniels choosing to stay in NE must be linked to this rumor. Daboll would have been a likely candidate for OC under Belichick if Josh left.

If he's ready for the next step, good for him. If Josh leaves for a HC job, no reason why BB couldn't tap Daboll and pull him back into the fold with a year or two of OC experience at Alabama. Better that than going stale waiting for new roles to open up in Foxboro.
