1. Giants - 42 (sorry to buzz kill, but let's be real)
2. Seahawks - 49 (very, very close second; definitely the best in terms of the matchup)
3. Rams - 36 (Facing Goliath is always cause for huge excitement)
4. Falcons - 51 (Just feel win or lose, they've given me enough, although this is for all the legacy marbles)
5. Eagles - 39 (huge dropoff from this one to the next one - I was really excited for this game)
6. Panthers - 38 (yuck...turned out to be a great game, but compared to the others, the Panthers were just not a team that excited me)
7. Giants - 46 (Dread/fear is not the same as excitement - I'd say I was most obsessed with this game but mostly just terrified and nearly resigned to a heart-breaking loss)

Looks about right to me.

36, 42, 49, Sunday, 38, 39, 46 in that order

SB49. That was the BIG ONE.

Richard Sherman - Brady beef. "U MAD BRO". C'mon now... we all wanted revenge.

Seattle generally being a very dislikable team. Disrespectful, trash talkers.

Seattle trying to go back to back, being the first dynasty since the Patriots. Destroyed Denver in the previous years Super Bowl.

10 years since our last SB win.

If we lose, the narrative wouldve been "Brady is 3-3 in Superbowls"... "Brady is .500 in the Super Bowl".... "Brady can't win without deflated balls"

DeflateGate drama.

Brady needed that 4th ring to cement himself as the GOAT.

#1 - the next one.
#2 - all the past ones.

seriously, how can I feel any anticipation for ones that were already played? really???

Remember, the OP is asking about anticipation, not confidence. And how you were feeling before the game started, not how the game outcome colored your initial feelings. Anyways...
  • 2007. How could you not have lots of excitement and anticipation about the chance to complete the perfect (and FU) season?
  • 2014. Get the #4 monkey off the back plus all the DFG garbage
  • 2001. Seemed to be on a miracle roll, plus facing Goliath
  • 2004. Wanting to complete the 3-out-of-4
  • 2016.
  • 2003.
  • 2011. No excitement or anticipation. Just dread, especially with the crap defense and broken Gronk.

Nothing will beat 2007.......that said, 2001 is a close second. The Panthers and Eagles both were teams I felt the Patriots were much better than...the Seahawks was a game that I felt "it" prior to the game. I feel good about this superbowl.

I really can't bring myself to hate Atlanta. I will be devastated if we lose, but just because we lost, not because who won. If Seattle had beaten us I would have been sick. Christ, when they beat SF in the NFCCG, I felt like a part of me died. That is how much I hate them.

If Atlanta beat us, nice one Atlanta.

I would have put this at the top but then Tomase well you know.

36: I'd been following them for over 25 years. I still remembered the humiliation by the Bears (Super Bowl Shuffle and the Refrigerator) and how Parcells dissed the organization before the Packers game. This time, I thought something was different. **** Stockton and Leslie Visser used to be neighbors on the same floor in our building and we became "elevator buddies," bonding over our shared Boston backgrounds. I bumped into **** (at the elevator) when he was on his way to New Orleans for Fox. Asked him whether he thought the 12 point 'dog Pats had a chance. I'll never forget his answer: "If they come out and hit them in the nose, they'll beat those guys."

42: yeah. of course. A chance for Sports immortality for the Pats

39: back to back and three out of four

38: validation of 36

49: Brady had to get his fourth. This was a good chance. Worked out.

46: superstitious trepidation. Little excitement. Mostly worry. Warranted.

Where does 51 go for me? Between 42 and 39. Third on my list.

Yeah tough call between 36 and 42. You could make an argument for either being tops in this. If I had to pick I would probably have to go with 42.

The reason is that it was one of the most important games in Bostons sports history. It is extremely difficult to to 18-0 and we may never see it again. Plus the trash talking that Don Shula and Mecury Morris did before the game raised the stakes really high. It was worse than the nonsense from the Hawks in 49. It would have been good to see those old bitter assholes eat ****.

1. Giants I- even though I had a bad feeling about it as soon as the Giants won the NFCCG history was at stake

2. Seahawks- put everything to bed regarding the GOAT and it had been so long since we were back. We as fans had taken many many slings and arrows over the years leading up.

3. Eagles- Only because I was living in Philly at the time. Charged atmosphere.

4. Rams- Felt magical just to be there.

5. Falcons- Winning against the Seahawks has lead me to feel like anything from here on out is gravy.

6. Carolina- Felt almost like a foregone conclusion that the Pats were gong to win. Which was nice for the most part. Game ended up being a good one though.

7. Giants II- Felt almost like a no-win situation in some ways, and we knew Gronkowski was banged up going into it. Just didn't feel like a strong team relatively speaking. I didn't feel like a win would exorcise any demons.

2. Seahawks- put everything to bed regarding the GOAT and it had been so long since we were back. We as fans had taken many many slings and arrows over the years leading up.

I can see why someone would feel this was 2. Since the 04 superbowl we had to endure.

1. A huge collpase in an AFCCG where if we won we would have rolled the Bears
2. A BS PI pass which could have cost a Lombardi
3. Ugly
4. Even more ugly technically
5. Hard to swallow
6. WTF?
7. Face palm
8. Whatever - almost expected at this point.
9. I seem to forget this year - intentionally.

The above 9 years are actually more painful than all the years before winning in 36 - as great as it was.
