Connors, born Krekor Ohanian, went to UCLA on a basketball scholarship and played for the legendary John Wooden.

Mike Connors had a notable career beyond just Mannix. He had a prominent role in one of the most expensive and grandest mini series (that few watched). As the years past he became a "that guy" in numerous TV show and movie appearances. I'd also be remiss to not mention he provided for some excellent 'bad breath' wit/ribbing between drinking buddies.
RIP Mike Connors...

RIP to Allman Brothers' drummer Butch Trucks, who also passed away on the 26th.

There are few actors who can take on a vast variety of roles and transform themselves totally into the character they are playing. Hurt was one of those actors, on parallel with Olivier, Hoffman, Kingsley, and Hopkins.

His credits are too lengthy to list, but the little-remembered and less-heralded role that I remember and that even now brings a smile to my face is his portrayal of a gay policeman in the 1982 film 'Partners' with Ryan O'Neal. 35 years later and I still find it as amusing and entertaining as when I first saw it at which time I didn't even know who John Hurt was.

I remember John for another movie that was also hard to watch... but in a slightly different way...

Maybe the scariest movie scene ever. Certainly the scariest I'd seen at that point. Yikes.

I can't think of a scarier/ creepier scene myself.

Thanks so much for posting this. As one may have guessed from my avatar, I'm a huge fan of the genre, and Mannix was my personal favorite. Many a Sunday of my youth was spent watching NFL topped off with Joe Mannix and the great Peggy Fair.

Sad as well to hear about John Hurt and Barbara Hale, Butch Trucks, and the incompable Mary Tyler Moore. May their memories all be a blessing.
