This answers a ton of questions on the new layout, including the notifications, stretching the layout, etc. So please read through this:

Here's a quick run through of some of the basic functions under the new board layout:

FIND THE MENU BUTTON:
Image-1-Menu-Button.jpg

On the upper left-hand corner, you'll see the menu button. That button runs site-wide here at PatsFans.com, and toggles the menu no matter what page you're on, including if you're on a mobile device.

Here's how you can turn different parts of the board on/off, hide different sections, etc.

1) Hide the Header Image:
Image-2-Header-Image.jpg

We'll be updating this photo on a daily basis, and each day it will appear with a high-resolution photo from this season. You can select to hide it for the duration of the day by checking this box. (See Below)

Image-2-Header-Image-Hide.jpg

When you uncheck the box, the image disappears and will stay hidden for the remainder of the day.

2)Show/Hide the News Ticker:
Image-3-News-Ticker.jpg

By selecting this box, you can choose to hide the news ticker, which appears at the top of the forum.

Image-3-News-Ticker-Hidden.jpg

After unchecking the box, you'll see it disappears.

3) Show/Hide The Twitter Feed:
Image-4-Twitter.jpg

The fully customized Twitter feed, which appears on the right hand sidebar, can also be hidden.
Before you elect to hide it, please note that you can select exactly who appears in the feed, which will be shown further down.

Uncheck the box, and the feed disappears.

4) Show/Hide New Post Notifications
Image-5-Notifications.jpg

The "Notifications" box can be unselected to hide the notification box, which shows you new posts.

Image-5-Notifications-Hidden.jpg

Uncheck the box, and the notifications are hidden when you're logged in and using the forum.

5) Hide the full Sidebar (Supporting Members Only)
Image-6-Sidebar.jpg

For members who support the site, you can choose to completely hide the sidebar by unchecking the "Sidebar" box, which will expand the board to full-width.

Image-6-Sidebar-Hidden.jpg

When the box is unchecked, you'll see the board expand to the right, hiding all items located in the sidebar area and streamlining the layout.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR TWITTER FEED:
Image-7-Twitter-Customize.jpg

To customize your Twitter feed, when you're logged in click the "CUSTOMIZE" link above the feed.

Image-7-Twitter-Customize-writers.jpg

Uncheck the writers or players you don't want to appear in the Twitter feed here after clicking the link.

We'll continue adding additional tutorials in the coming weeks, but hopefully these get you started and feel free to post questions in the "Help Forum" and I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have there as well.

I'm posting this separately since I think people are bypassing it on the other support thread. This answers a ton of questions on the new layout, including the notifications, stretching the layout, etc. So please read through this:

Looking good, like the update, thanks for all the hard work

Looks great and appreciate the flexibility. Unfortunately, I have no "notifications" button on my menu. (I have five other buttons, but none turns off notifications).

You don't have a "Notifications" checkbox like what you see here?

Is there anyway to move the upper toolbar that follows you or edit its placement

It should be flush at the top but I noticed from a few screen shots there seems to be space between it and the top of the screen. I'll look at that tonight when I get home because I haven't been able to recreate it on my end.

Yea mines is like that too, thanks

I suggest you make this post a sticky for a few days, Ian. Thanks for this great work! Looks awesome. If I had to make any suggestion, and it would be minor: maybe a spacer between the thread and the sidebar because right now they are contiguous. No big deal though....Oh wait just realized the sidebar is actually sort of floating on top of the thread...hmmm...so is it really a sidebar? That's for the philosophers to decide.

Plus I used to see a 'notifications' thing where I saw who liked, hated, my posts. Now it is notifying me who posted in what thread, in real time. Will we still see who reacted to our posts? I'm insecure that way.

Thanks for the customizability, Ian!

I have now blocked virtually everything possible to block.

:D

Long as I can still get my message out. ;)

healthy bump

Another bump, soon to be a sticky

Ian, Like the new look and functionality of the site except when using my ipad. The forum directory is pretty much unusable. Forum titles are only 2 characters wide, with a lot of white space. thanks

I've seen that on my end on my Surface. I'll try and look at it closer over the weekend. Got home a little late from work last night and didn't have much time but hopefully in the next day or two.

no problem, I understand and appreciate what you do. Have a great weekend, and make sure you don't work on the site on Sunday night....:)

All good. I'm glad most of the issues are minor ones and the overall functionality of the implemented features all seem to be working well, which was my bigger concern. So I'll get the other kinks worked out, and keep the feedback coming ;)

For some reason I keep getting a little blinking black box in the top right corner of my screen every 5 seconds or so. What might this be?
