Jimmy Johnson on Belichick's greatness

Very interesting insights. Seems like Jimmy is impressed by Belichick. :)

One thing I realized when JJ was talking about how Belichick is a personnel guy when a lot of coaches, such as JJ's example of Tom Landry, were not: Belichick's dad Steve literally wrote the book on scouting. So Bill grew up with that specific focus in his blood, as much as football overall is in his blood from before birth.

Also, when JJ was talking about how teams can't hold onto the entire lineup anymore so every year is a new team building exercise, we've all be awed by watching BB rebuild the Patriots from year to year without ever really losing the competitive advantage. First, I'd think that having a strong personnel orientation would be a help in that. Secondly, doing it repeatedly is like anything else that is practiced, it gets easier and better. Most coaches don't have the chance to master that and Belichick has, which is a tremendous and hidden advantage.

Jimmy Johnson was one of the very few that defended Belichick over Spygate and told the truth about what it was all about and how it was no big deal. Respect.

JJ was one that backed BB during spygate, but there were actually many coaches that backed BB that year, Cowher for one, Madden for another and others I can't recall right now cuz its New Years and I'm quite wasted. Unfortunately none of that mattered as the NFL (Goodell) wanted to make all teams equal for "parity".

I think it goes beyond parity. There is a jealousy and vendetta towards Belichick from the NFL front office and from around the league. It's pathetic.

Its $$$$ haha. Before the NEP, BB era, it was a parity driven random coin flip league, and that was good for business.

BB's greatest mistake as a coach/gm was assuming the rest of the league cared more about football than pride. Although, I cant fault him, its a strange thing to anticipate.

After the Spygate wakeup call (or 1 yr before ;)), I wish BB had re-allocated 1% of his time to navigating the Machiavellian politics of the NFL instead of concluding (probably rightfully) so, that history would be the judge his successes.

In other words, he needed a fall guy. I kid, but the best description would be a "lobbyist". In perfect hindsight, Kraft and BB should have inserted team loyalist into the NFL management circle as soon as they realized it was no longer a puppet regime.

One day I hope BB gets fucinknggg fed up. Decides enough is enough, and takes a active role in the future evolution the game. Like 1% of his free time. That should be enough to get it done. For someone that obviously loves the sport, BB has really dropped the ball in determining its' future. That sentence sounds harsh, but I cant retract it. And for Christmas sakes, he should be able to maneuver around these guys before they knew what hit them. **** they wouldn't even know HE - WAS - the one who hit them. Ideally RK would be recruited and involved behind the scenes as well - it would make things easier. Both men would join for a common cause, albeit for different reasons.

BB Get **** Done and save the NFL Plan
---------------------------
Use influence to get NFL friends/purist/loyalist into any and all openings in the NFL ranks (officiating, medical, press, mgmt, etc..)
Join the rules committee at first opening. They couldn't stop BB. The press would eat it up.
Use network to recruit and recommend same minded individuals for all open NFL positions.
Expand the ranks.
Slowly take more power.
Repeat until:
Kick the idiots out.
And
Future of NFL is saved

Why it'll work?
After 15 yrs of "were on to Cincy" What BB says is important. He can use that.
BB probably got at least 20% of the people in the NFL their jobs. That's a ton of support and a big network if called on.
It's BB.

:)o_O:D

Oh, and... Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!

I've heard JJ defend Belichick about spygate and same thing with Bill Cower. So many people have no idea what spygate was all about thanks to Tomase. I heard his voice on weei and had to call in for the first time yesterday. The topic was Ortiz and started with it and said, "I have a question for you John. Do you have any breaking news on Matt Walsh?" I never listen when he is on the radio or switch the station on tv, but have always wanted to ask him that question.

What was his response? One day this past week, with most regulars on vacation, the 10-2 offerings on 98.5 and WEEI were as follows: Hardy and Shaughnessy (98.5) and Bradford and Tomase (WEEI.). Seriously???

At one time at the end of every season BB used to spend some time with Jimmy on his boat, discussing football..

BB has a select group he confides in Saban, Johnson and few ex players as well..

Sorry to sidetrack the thread nabwong.

I started by saying Ortiz is the heart of the city because Ortiz was the topic. I added Brady is the main guy around town. Then told Tomase I have a question. "Do you have any breaking news on Matt Walsh?" He said, "I knew that was coming!" He hung up on me and then made fun of me for about a minute, but it was mostly Trenni saying that wasn't nice and everybody makes mistakes. Basically painting Tomase as the victim even though he sabotaged the Pats the day of the super bowl and has made the general public think the Pats video taped the Rams practice.

I was texting one of my friends who is a big Pats fan and he said he had to Google Matt Walsh. I honestly have no idea how Tomase has a job in Boston, but it seems most people forget the damage he did to the team and its reputation. Again, I always switch the station when he is on, but I just had to ask him that question.

Ok, who the hell is matt Walsh and what was his connection to spygate?

Is that a serious question? If so, Matt Walsh apparently filmed the Rams walk through before Super Bowl 36. I can't remember if it was the globe or herald that reported this, but they had to retract their report because their was no evidence I believe. And Matt Walsh had no such video, nobody did.

It was the fat fkr Tomese that wrote that the week of the SB.

He's not lying when he says they are good friends. They go fishing together on Jimmy's boat in Miami. Oh, and this isn't the first time he's said this on national TV.

It's a happier New Year after reading that post. Thanks. Maybe BB and BK will, as you mentioned, get fed up and do something. Let's hope so.

That's not a bad idea. More of us should call in when he's on and ask him the same question. Did you get a response?

While I agree with this, most coaches also don't have Tom Brady. I don't think you can underestimate how important he has been to BB's success, and vice versa.
