Rob Gronkowski will replace Jimmy Johnson on Fox NFL Sunday

Jimmy Johnson was there for informe opinions
Gronk is there for Gen Z entertainment

I think the new anchor should be an AI agent as AI is coming for all our jobs anywsy

This is confusing. Not sure we need more Gronk in the booth. Definitely less Terry Bradshaw. When does he leave?

Ehhhh. I guess I'd prefer somebody who will have more substantive insight to offer. Gronk's a good egg, but informative? Hardly.

Edelman really could be a star in that sort of role.

Always enjoyed Jimmy Johnson, had a good way of meshing his own past experiences from decades ago to the viewer. Very cut and dry and nothing kiss ass about the guy.

Gronk is horrible on TV. I love him, and believe he was the best TE ever... and that he was very football smart, and is not a dumb jock as his public persona is. But, he's not good on the fly having to say words.
However, that role (Jimmy J, or Terry B) does not need to do anything except bring entertainment and energy. And Gronk does that in spades. It will be interesting to see if he can grow over time though - to sharpen up on verbalizing actual insights and football takes.

I'm 100% in favor of anything Gronk related. But I probably won't be watching.

As always, I'll tape the game only and rewatch it (at very low volume) some time after it starts. I can watch a game in about 2 hours and not hear any of the bs.

Once again the fellowship of the miserable strikes again.

God forbid someone around here actually recognize that we are a very hardcore group of football fans. They've tried to pander to us in the past with more in depth shows and guess what there aren't enough of us to bring in ratings.

If Gronk got this promotion I'm sure he polls very well for them and deserves it.

We usually have one of the pregame shows on in the background and sometimes something catches our eye like when Gronk jumped out a plane. And I like him on his podcast with Jules.

Do folks still watch pre-game shows? I got **** to do until 1pm.
They must because there’s more of them now and people on the show are making a lot of money.

I’m trying to figure out who you’re mad at, if anyone lol

I loved Gronk as a player. Hated him as a tease about unretiring to the Pats (and then not). I think he’s OK with Jules and awful on the panel shows.

I think Gronk is better in the more casual settings like with Jules on ig rather than the studio with the huge camera right in his face

Glad he's doing so well and I wish him the best 100 but I think he's there for the laughs mostly, and that's fine tbh

It's cool, I guess, to see more Pats legends on national TV. I might check out the pre-game shows the first week (maximum general football excitement) and then taper off, especially if we suck again and there is to offer on the show is gargling while talking about the Chefs.

Gronk is ok on TV. He's fun. He's improved over the years with his delivery (his first year out was...hurtful lol), but can agree that Jules is the most likely to have an enduring career in sport entertainment.

I think Edelman is a natural - confident, clear, good points, open.. except sometimes he does this weird squint thing with his right eye like his dad lol

Right now I'm mad at everyone because they won't let me be a fan of Bill Belichick and then I come in here and people are talking ill of the loveable Gronk.

He's just a loveable teddy bear who they let do fun entertaining things like Gronk spiking guitars with their guests like Morgan Wallen (ok that was at Gillette last night not the Fox show but they do fun stuff like that too). But I guess if you're not a hot take artist or some super nerdy analyst then posters around here think there's no place on air for you.

He's far from perfect in front of the camera, but at least Gronk has had a couple of seasons of practice on a part-time basis.

It's about time they get younger.

Why Terry Bradshaw wasn't put out to pasture years ago is one of life's mysteries; he should have been shown the door before Jimmy Johnson. Bradshaw is constantly stumbling over his words, even when he is staring down, reading them off a monitor.. The 'fun old buffoon' character is tiresome and overdone; his interviews are cringeworthy.
How is Bradshaw not 100 years old at this point? Feels like he’s been around forever

Got it.

I don’t have those same requirements as the posters around here that you mention, but I find Gronk a lot more cringey than lovable. I’d prefer most anyone else in that role.

Doesn’t really matter though, I never really watch those shows either.

(I am with you on my undying love for Bill)

Give me the good old days. Len Dawson (QB)and Nick Buoniconti (LB) showing 40 minutes of game highlights and talking about them for 20 minutes. Do they even show highlights now?

I wouldn't use the word cringe but Gronk and even Brady both seemed a little stiff at first but I think each has loosened up as they grew more comfortable.

Gronk probably won't ever fully shake that because it's a little part of his personality but I suspect getting him behind the desk in a more formal setting will allow him to show a slightly different side as opposed to doing the stuff he's been doing the last few years as more of the puff piece guy (not sure what the actual name is for that type of role is offset analyst or something).

I mean it's probably hard to give solid x and o's analysis when they have you kicking field goals with kids at tailgates in the parking lots and jumping out of planes with servicemen during Salute the Service month.

That was the show Inside the NFL which believe it or not still airs and actually had Bill on as one of the host analysts this year. I've always loved that show. This year it was Bill, Chris Long, Ochocinco, and Ryan Clark. And Seeing Bill interact with 2 former players of his and a former rival was really entertaining.
