OT: Todd Bowles to stay on as Jet head coach, per Woody

That's actually the right move. It isn't Bowles fault the QB position is a trainwreck.
The entire team is a trainwreck.
They started the season as a joke of a defense long before the QB problems began.

I generally think new coaches deserve three years to turn a team around, but the collapse of the Jets from last season's 10-6 record should be troubling to the owner. It's hard to see the Jets contending for a playoff berth in 2017 after this year's finish and the meltdown at the quarterback position.

Like NormZ suggested, I'm a believer that 3 years is needed to give a coach his fair shot at building a winner. But on this one you're spot on AJ. The Jets were, are and appear to be in such fustercluck territory that an exception to the 3 year rule sure seemed warranted for Bowles.

Of course as Patriot fans we should be rooting for Bowles to remain. This appears to be 2017 comedy gold waiting to happen. However, our pleasure with the Jets virtually guaranteeing themselves another laughingstock year feels like it's approaching sadistic. Diehard Jets fans were already on the verge of giving up on life -- now they have to swallow this. Those poor, hapless, congenital idiots....

Maybe Johnson & Johnson baby powder really does cause health problems...just not vaginaly....its mental. Who knew?

Still think if the team plays dead this week against EJ Manuel and whatever the guy's name is that is coaching the Bills, there is a good chance Bowles is gone.

So there's no Bowles movement. Good, I like him. I think the Jets should give him an extension.

There is no reason to believe Bowles is capable of being a HC

I thought Bowles was actually a good choice by the Jets at the time... getting the best coach available no less

I was wrong. I saw nothing this season that makes me think he's going to be a good coach. I saw a lot that makes me think he's a bad coach.

I think this move by Woody is pure laziness - no doubt also influenced by Belichick's narrative on the subject in recent days -

It really doesn't matter if Bowles is a good HC or not. He lost the team, the team no longer plays hard for him. When that happens then it doesn't matter, especially when a lot of the trouble players like Revis, Wilkerson, Richardson, Marshall, etc. are still on the team next year. Doesn't matter for us I guess, another year of Jets being one of the worst teams in the NFL.

I can live with that.

"My team quit on their coach and got curb stomped 41-3 by the Pats? They had a severely terrible record a year after going 10-6?

Better keep that guy!"

That first sentence says it all.

This team quit on their coach. He has lost the locker room. Why is coming back?

Am I the only one disappointed that there won't even be a chance that Wrecks goes back to New Jersey?

Ah well...

There's some serious dysfunction in that locker room. I'm not sure how much better most other coaches could have done with that team. Talent matters, but BB and co have shown that commitment to football and maturity are pretty damn important too.

I'm okay with him staying there, that defense sucked so bad since Rex left...

Lol, BB just said that continuity is important, but here's everybody laughing at Bowles, who had only 2 seasons as HC.

I for one think he can still be good. I blame Mac for this team. He knew about Richardson and Wilkerson's attitudes, but he still made them the leaders of this team. It was him who keep paying fitz and Drafing scrubs, negleting depth and Paying heaven and earth for aging veterans like our old pal Revis

Of course Bowles has part in it. But he has been a VERY stand-up guy. Heck, last year, he took the mess that Ryan did and led the team to a 10-6 season. If anything, I'm sad that he will stay, simply because i think he is an un-winnable situation, but he will be the scapegoat. We need more Todd Bowles and less Rex Ryan's in this league.

Years from now, when BB retires after his 10th ring, I'd like to know how will people respond to a bad season. Are they gonna ask for the HCs head year after year? If so, we are in for a storm...

The team has quit on Blowes and they are giving him another year. SOFJ!

2017 is already shaping up well for us:
  • Jets are keeping Blowes and McCreepy
  • Buffalo will be breaking in a new coach
  • Miami still thinks Tannehill is a franchise QB
Somehow NYJ will still claim victory for the off-season championship...
Most likely 2017 afce standings.
1. Pats
2,3,4 take your pick
Goodell now studying how to even the playing field.....

The team quit on their coach. Period.
The roster needs a thorough housecleaning of malcontents, regardless of "talent".
Even if he was given that power and made all the right decisions, the reality would be another bad year as they rebuild. Remember they do not have a QB.
So odds are heavily that even if he does everything right, he'll get fired by the moronic owner next December.
I like that.

Since this is not the Jets Suck thread, I'll admit that I thought the Jets would have a good year. They had a good DL and a good OL, a serviceable QB in Fitzpatrick and some good offensive weapons (Forte, Powell, Enunwa, Marshall, Decker).

You can argue that I was wrong about Fitzpatrick, but I think that it was the injuries on the O-line that really did for them.

That said, the team hasn't stuck together through adversity. Bowles has to have the authority to cut those who don't commit to the team, however much they are paid. Otherwise it will just be the Same Old Jets clown show again next year.
