Patriots have the #1 defense (PPG) in the NFL

Who exactly is facing the "great offenses" week in and week out? For that matter who is facing the great defenses week in and week out? It ain't happening. The truth of the matter is that this is a weak year for the NFL, and the closest thing to a great team in it is the Patriots. No one can name a great division because there isn't one, the NFC East is probably the best division in the league this season but that's only because of late season runs by NY and Washington, a month ago the division was just as mediocre as all the rest. So the Chicken Littles in this board can continue to do their CHB inspired tomato can douchebag dance but the truth of the matter is that it's much better to be the Patriots than to have to face them in the playoffs. And when they win the Super Bowlin February I hope those who have actually supported the team throughout the season are sure to remind the Chicken Littles that their loyalties lay elsewhere throughout the season and that it's not their championship to enjoy.

I was critical about the Pats defense especially after the Seattle game, but there are some major league debbie downers on the forum. Over the top negative, I don't know how you can feel that way now. They are 12-2 and a balanced team.

So the Pats should risk the health of their best players so that Mimai does not get some confidence and get extra motivated and scar (playing against second stringers) if they end up playing us again?

Yeah, ummmm no.

Teams that rest players always seem to be come out flat though in the divisional round though. I kind of hope oakland wins this week so we do not even have to make a choice on what to do. Its almost a no win situation to clinch it before week 17

Yeah I would like to see the Pats keep on playing tough and hopefully they don't get injured. If the Pats have HFA locked up I would probably play Brady, Edelman, and Bennet for a half vs Miami. Most likely Miami will be playing us like a playoff game...tough call if HFA is locked up. I kinda feel like if you let Miami win that gives them some extra confidence coming into Gillete if they make to the divisional round.
That would be ideal. But with the Raiders nipping at our heels we need one more win and a Raiders loss to garantee HFA throughout. Then sit certain p l ayers who could use extended rest. Miami played tough against us the first time. If we meet them in the Playoffs I don't they stand a chance against us. But I would love to see them eliminated from the playoff contention. That is why I want us to beat them in the final game.

There is a difference between blind homerism and rooting for a team.
What does this statement have to do with you being a very negative on here and then calling out other posters for being very negative. You were (Are) one of the worst offenders.

Also, name or point out a "blind homer" here? I keep seeing this term but dont know anyone here who comes close to that. And you know what, even if they are here they dont make game day threads and a lot of this forum unreadable like you and your little band of idiots do.

You calling others here "debbie downers" is comical.

I just don't like you, I am gonna be honest. Don't try and paint me into the negative corner. I was skeptical of the defense and gave my reasons as to why. They have stepped up big time and I can see they have a winning team this season. They are clearly getting better as the season has gone along.

I just don't like you,
I am gald to hear that. The good news is that nobody here likes you. Well, maybe your little band of negative posters.

Oh, you have seen the light now? Awwwwww Gee. All is forgiven.

Let's call them very good - and once they're playing GOOD offenses, we can see whether they are what we thought they are. We can only go by the evidence we have - and THAT looks very good.

I don't mind writing the book on this season after it's over. As far as the week to week goes... this team looks good. And getting better. The data points we have are great (stats or eye test.)

Chicken littles piss me off too b/c sometimes you have to accept you've got it really good. But noooo. Then when the team doesn't win the SB on average 3/4 of the time - put another way eight times the "parity" expectation- you get to say "I TOLD you, homers!"

God help the hapless boo birds if/when we regress to the mean.

What I like seeing is the players that were once considered liabilities, Marcus Cannon Nate Solder, seeme to have turned a corner this year. Cannon who I have wondered how he stays on the team is actually playing very well right now. At one point Chung was a huge liability in the passing game. But his second stint with the Pats he is a different player. He has become an every down player. Solder has seemed to wake up in the latter half of the season. Lets hope the OL in general keep playing at the levekl they are playing at. Keeping Brady clean is the first step, a clean Brady means Brady is making plays and Brady making plays always puts us in the best position to win every time he is on the field.
If the D continues to step it up, this team all around is going to be extremely difficult to beat, on the road or at home it won't be easy.

Not having to "protect" the young guards playing next to them allows them both to play a more balanced game. Thuney is a rookie and Mason was a part time player as a rookie, before winning the position outright in the second half of his sophomore season. It makes a big differance in NOT having to shade toward protecting their young, raw companion players.

Next time the mediots try to downplay how well our defense played at Mile High by pointing out a poor Denver offense, just let them know that the Broncos, this season, have averaged 20+ PPG at home

They average 20 plus for the season too I believe. I already had to tell a Giants fan this exact thing

I rewatched the game last night and early on, Denver had a couple big plays that could have lead to points but our defense made the plays they needed to

Lots of big drops for Denver too.. I think if we rematched them they'd have a bit more success offensively but would ultimately be the same result.. the pats are just a superior team as a whole

Yeah, the Broncos have scored a pretty good amount of points. 21, 34, 29, 27, 16, 13, 27, 27, 20, 25, 27, 20, 10, and now 3. Patriots taught them a lesson.

These last few weeks remind me of 2001-2004 teams. Every player knows what the D is trying to accomplish, and they are in the right position now that they understand the D concepts. They are playing fast, and they know their assignments. Many new faces are here, but smart players, so it just took time to jell. They also had to remove a few players that didn't get it, bc/ they were compromising the whole.

Since that turning point, it's allowed Patricia to rush 4, but from surprising locations. It seems like more. The result being they've gotten more pressure with 4 than I've seen in many years. So yes the D has been let loose, and more aggressive, but they had to play as a unit first for it to work.

I'm excited to watch how it evolves from here. But I like what I see so far!
