While that may not be wrong or right, If you cant set the edge, Your not going to be playing for this team
My initial post cited Rosevelt Colvin as the type of player I wanted to sign. So why any of you guys started responding to me about 1 dimensional players that can play the run is beyond me.

Because the post I responded to was about athletic players either being 1 dimensionial or versatile. Im sure some are and some arent. And the ones who are 1 dimensional probably wont be playing here no matter hpw a good a pass rusher they are. Your initial post can also misunderstood, you said Colvin type deal, not player

And in Colvins 4 full
seasons he had 24.5 sacks here.

We have signed many players who can do that.
I don't care about the number of sacks. I care about having a guy that can consistently generate heavy pressure on the QB on passing plays. Something none of the edge rushers on this team right now can do.

Well you shouldn't have used Colvin because flowers and sheard are even long are getting more pressure than he did

The guy you are talking about looks better than he is playing in a system that asks him to do nothing but rush the passer. This team plays team defense and does not get the result you want because it has a larger concept.

If I recall correctly, in 2007 the New England Football Patriots won 18 games in a row and held their opponent to 17 in the super bowl. Not too shabby.

In 2007, the Patriots held their opponents to 17.1 points per game. They held the Giants to 17 points in that game. The Giants were averaging 23.3 points a game that year, so the Patriots held them to 6.3 points below NY's average, and essentially were right on their own defensive season average.

So on the one hand you can say that they absolutely, positively did enough defensively to win the game.

Except.... That last drive. They had multiple chances to end the drive.

- 4th and 1 from the NY 37. Jacobs *barely* gets the first down - by like a few inches.

- 2nd and 5 from the NY 44. Samuel *nearly* makes a terrific interception, but it tips off his fingers.

- 3rd and 5 from the NY 44. Three Patriots are egregiously held right in front of the official, and still they *almost* get the sack. The ref admitted afterward that he was *thisclose* to blowing the play dead. Eli escaped, and a totally miraculous play resulted instead of a 7-yard sack.

- 3rd and 11 from the NE 25. They let Smith get free for a first down completion of 12 yards.

Long story short, as well as the D played all game (holding NY to 10 points in 59:25), at the end of the day they couldn't seal the deal, even though they came really, really close on several occasions.

Ugh, I hate talking about that game.

It's BS that pass rushing is not part of NEs defense. Mark Anderson and Andre Carter did that here.

The defense has generated a good amount of pressure with the front 4 over the last few weeks. What games have you been watching?

Guess you don't know what "consistent" means. Certainty doesn't mean do something well for 1/8th of the season.

Of course thats not what I said.
If you want to think Dwight freeney would play the same way in a BB defense as he played in Indy there is no talking to you

They've incorporated new guys into the defense in the last few weeks. They've also moved away from the vanilla defense. Why would you compare the beginning of the season to the last few games? The defense we've seen the last few weeks is the one we will see going forward.

Absolutely no reason to still be complaining about the defense.

Patriots #7 in the league in QB hurries. They've generated 9 less QB hurries than the vaunted Broncos pass rush. But yep they don't generate pressure. But of course the whiny doom-and-gloomer wouldn't know that....

Just wondering where I can get stats for QB pressures, hits, hurries, and knockdowns. Can they be found on pro football reference

This is terrible news for those of us who would rather be right than watch the team we root for succeed and prove us wrong.
I'm not quite buying this yet. Ive heard sports experts like Michael Felger say they suck all season long. This whole lowest points thing is probably just fake news.

Division opponents, always play us harder. The Dolphins, Jets and Bills always play us tough every year, every game. Regardless of the mediocrity of their offenses vs. other Opponents, they always step up and play us tough, they have the advantage of facing us twice each season, so they know us better. And the Miami game will be no different, there are legit playoff implications for them and they are jockeying for a spot in the post season. The Jets will come out and try and beat us to play the spoiler. So regardless of how bad their offenses are, they will still come out and play at our level. We need to stay focused and not get lazy, 2 games, we need to win both. We lose even one and the Raiders get HFA throughout.

Yeah I would like to see the Pats keep on playing tough and hopefully they don't get injured. If the Pats have HFA locked up I would probably play Brady, Edelman, and Bennet for a half vs Miami. Most likely Miami will be playing us like a playoff game...tough call if HFA is locked up. I kinda feel like if you let Miami win that gives them some extra confidence coming into Gillete if they make to the divisional round.

So the Pats should risk the health of their best players so that Mimai does not get some confidence and get extra motivated and scar (playing against second stringers) if they end up playing us again?

Yeah, ummmm no.
