Lets not get ahead of ourselves, season isn't over yet. Do you really feel like the Patriots have the best defense in the NFL?
No I don't actually. However I will say this... If the Patriots end up with the number ONE scoring defense in the NFL, go 13-3 or 14-2 and win a SB, all the whining about the D will seem ridiculous. (Not saying you were one of the whiners I don't know) Possibly if we get that far, the "weak D" meme will be long gone, I don't know.

Does it matter what anyone feels since football is played on the field?
You just can't keep that promise can you?

Well I mean does this forum matter at all? I don't understand why you would even go there. I am not commenting on the defense just asking a question.

Ultimately it means nothing. It may be entertaining for people to say what they think but it is meaningless.

They'll just start threads about how the defense was luckiest and needs improving.

Don't tell the media around here

#1 defense is on the line, now we actually have something to play for
Yeah, the fact that people actually care about stuff like this always makes me scratch my head.

It in no way helps this team at the end of the season before the playoffs if they are the number one scoring defense.

Well it helps them get a higher seed if they don't allow many points

Back up QB's and Schedule.

I'm not suggesting this is the 85 Bears D or anything, but why do people always assume we're the only beneficiary of schedule?

The Seahawks get a terrible division with the Cardinals flaming out, an atrocious 49ers O, and a Rams offense that is highschoolish (Atlanta scored more TDs in LA today than LA has scored in LA all season). People on this board mocked our D because they played well against the Rams, but nobody says **** about Seattle getting 2 games with them plus 2 more with the 49ers. Seattle also plays our division, but when we beat the Bills, our D gets no credit, when they do, they're a great D.

The Ravens benefit from 4 games with the winless Browns and disappointing Bungles. They beat a Steelers team with a still-hobbled Ben, and they got a freebie by playing the Jaguars. They drew the tough NFC East, but it's not a division with a ton of big offenses. The Cowboys are probably the best, Washington is inconsistent, the Giants and Eagles suck though. And also, they drew our division. So when they give up 24 to the Jets, nobody says a thing, but when we play the Jets, our D sucks.

The Vikings got to play the Packers early while they were sorting their **** out, a terrible Bears team, and a streaky Lions team that hasn't been great on offense but has produced late in games. They drew the AFC South, the worst division in football, as well as the NFC East, again, not a huge offensive division. So when they hold the putrid Texans to 13 points, they're a great defense. When we shut out Houston, it's the competition and schedule.

To be clear, I think all of those 3 defenses above are better than ours currently. I'm not trying to defend ours. I'm not trying to make them sound better than they are. I just get tired of the excuse about division or schedule or backup QBs or all the other usual excuses. At some point, you are what you are, and we're a pretty good defense in terms of points allowed. Doesn't mean we're the best in the world, doesn't mean we're the greatest of all time, doesn't even mean we have a good D.

But they do a good job of keeping points off the board. You can make whatever excuses you want to ignore it, but they're just excuses.

Yeah I am not yet sold that they have an elite defense. And other than an inconsistent Baltimore Ravens team we probably won't find out until they are in the playoffs.

Denver... not so good on offense
Jets.. I think they are playing Bryce Petty?
Dolphins.. back up QB

The Pats could literally give up 16 PPG for the season at this point. Which is really good.

"I hate to tell you but I told you so".......bah,huh,huh!

I've never said that! I've only said it's poor form. Cause it is.

But it's still fun

It's been such a weird season watching the defense (frustrating at times) yet seeing them among the league's best PPG allowed and total yards allowed. You also start to question the competition... However, if you take Seattle for example, they've faced very similar competition to the Pats by also playing the AFC East and NFC West.

Patriots defense: 17.2 PPG
Seattle defense: 17.8 PPG
------
Patriots defense: 337 total yards per game
Seattle defense: 330 total yards per game

In addition to questions about the competition, I suppose you can also start to wonder about the significant drop in talent & playmakers from last year and how they're still ranked at the top: C Jones, Collins, Easley (provided lots of pressures & hurries, Hicks, diminished play from Sheard, diminished play from Ryan, & more.

We've also seen a few decisions in-game from Belichick that would indicate he may not trust the defense. Plus a few comments about how he hasn't been satisfied with the defense.

Just don't mix the crowd of people who think the D has been bad, and those that aren't sure how it's going to hold up against better teams

We gonna need our #1 D to bring their A game tomorrow.

I was referencing a moronic thread of a few weeks ago. I chose to respond with your post due to the "yea but". I don't disagree with anything you posted.

Air Flacco vs. Air Goff ......too funny

I expect McCourty will be 45 yards deep therefore it will 11 on 10 where the game is actually played

Like someone mentioned....I fear NE's O will be the issue tonight...staying on the field / burning clock

Despite all the local "ain't it awful" local mediots, the glass is half full folks..

Or you can tune today and hear them whine about how worried they are against the Ravens offense..

I hate night games, all football should start no later than 4:00 PM Sunday Afternoon..
