Thursday Night Turdfest Official Game Thread

I don't understand the scheduling of TNF, ok, the games are scheduled way ahead of the start of the season but anyone who follows the league knew in advance this game would be a cluster****. Just like at least 80% of the TNF this year.

Do the league want to put a bad product in primetime on purpose? I mean, can't they sneak this game sunday 1 Pm among all the other games so no one who is not a fan of both these teams will waste their time watching this s.hit? Are they afraid of taking a good game from Sunday and scheduling on Thursday? There are always a lot of games Sunday, ok that this season you can count 2 good games per sunday so taking 1 out may make a difference on the overall quality but anyway, putting these games on Thursdays is a shot in the foot. It's better to not show anything.

Not to defend the league on that but creating a schedule is not as trivial as it looks.

All tv networks and teams can put in certain requests, there are the international games that are fixed in time and place, you have to consider travel distances for all teams involved, certain stadiums are not available sometimes because they are booked for another event or in multi sport cities you got other major sport teams playing and much more...

If you would switch this game with something else its like a domino piece that then results in multiple other games that need to be changed and who knows what that brings.

All that being said, it's time to get rid of those TNF games and if the NFL really wants an additional exclusive night of football try to work something out with legislation about Saturday Night games. I don't think a single NFL game in that slot would affect college football that much anyway.

That's the thing I love about BB. He's not afraid to recognize when he's made a mistake and fix it right there and then. The rest of the NFL, and the NFL itself, is another story. It's pretty obvious TNF isn't working out but nobody will acknowledge it or do anything about it for a long time.

From what little I saw last night, he did a fair amount of gambling. As often as he'd make a good play, he'd end up on the backside of a play because he guessed. I'm surprised Cleveland doesn't care, but hey, that's why they're 0-8. There's no accountability like there is here.

What it boils down to for me is that BB & staff rather has a Tier 2 player that is consistent over an elite player that is inconsistent and can't be counted on. They rather have a player that consistently limits plays to 2-3 yard losses than one that gives them sometimes 7 yard sack gains and other times leaves a gap open and gives other teams big gains.

Collins played exactly like what he is yesterday. An athletic beast that can do amazing things but then bites on things that can be a neck breaker in a close game. And if you look at his weaknesses over his entire stay with us then I gotta say that he didn't really improve on any of those. Wheel routes remained an issue throughout his entire stay and he often took the cheese and left gaps wide open.

On to Seattle

Was there a game last night?

They really need to do away with these Thursday night games. They're sloppy and boring. I honestly cannot remember the last Thursday night game (including Pats games) that was any good.

..... Ever

I've never seen a good Thursday night game. The road team is at an incredible disadvantage. Unsafe and putrid product. League is slowly starting to circle on go down the drain.

I tried watching for a bit, and then could not believe it when the Browns, while still in it, began switching out their QBs, with predictable, disastrous results to follow. Hello? This is not the preseason Brownies. I quickly switched to the Bruins blow-out, a more fun blow-out to watch. Jamie Collins must be so happy right now to be on a team that is playing the preseason in the middle of the real season. Ditto for the NFL for a prime time contest.

The last good one that I can remember is the Buttfumble game on Thanksgiving, 2012. But that was 4 years ago, and unless you are a Pats fan or were just looking for pure entertainment, you probably didn't think that game was any good either.

Yeah I get all of that, and I'll add to the points you mentioned the fact that every team is granted a Thursday Night game so in the current format you can't avoid having at least one Browns or Tennessee game in a Thursday, but anyways, a multi billion dollar industry should be able to make arrangements and avoid this embarrassment. A bad game here and there OK, that's what you get having Browns or Jags in primetime, but as I said, almost all TNF games were putrid this year. This is just a bad process right there on behalf of NFL.

My understanding is every team gets a primetime game. Assuming that's true, it means you have to have the Browns on at some point. Showing a division game with the Ravens would be about the best bet for something watchable, really.

I suppose they could have made it a Cleveland home game, because it was known at the season's outset how awful they would be, that would give them a slightly better chance at a victory, or at least a reasonable showing.

When one player doesn't execute his assignments, he affects ten other players. Pretty soon, you don't have a defense, you have a sandlot team. sad to see such an athletic specimen go, but one 28 yard run that should have been stuffed negates a couple exciting sacks, tackles for loss, plus the fact the other players lose discipline too.

Man, does Collinsworth love him. Remember, you can't spell Collinsworth without Collins.

I know it was the browns but the ravens d was good last night.

Pats will need to apply pressure to flacco, force him to make mistakes

Exactly. That's what the phrase 'do your job' means. Belichick took it from the Navy. The emphasis is on your - do your job. If you're not doing your job, then someone else has to abandon their job to cover for you, to do the job you're not doing. A cascade of fail ensues.

Yeah that's what I was answering at the same time you post (see above) but Ravens x Browns has been historically bad in recent years. Actually, this is more on the Ravens to be honest, they have been an awful low scoring team in prime time, but a Ravens x Steelers for example would get more public attention. And about the Browns guaranteed game, this year there was nothing the league could do, that is not even a professional football team but Ravens x Browns was a guaranteed ****show, maybe Browns x Miami would be more of an entertainment.

It's the incredibly stupid Little League idea of having them all needing a primetime game.

Can't wait to see the Pats play the Ravens and I bet the team can't wait either.

I think the team knows what the Ravens role in the PSI crap really was - that it wasn't about deflated footballs at all...it was really about Brady telling Harbaugh to read the rulebook.

Will be fun to see the Pats go up big against them and we'll see if they call off the dogs or not. If they don't then that will confirm it.
