PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

I hate the trade and hate that Lombardi is mouthing off - and hate more that the media is taking it like he's speaking for the Patriots.

Collins said nothing wrong in that interview. I'm still rooting for the guy (except against the Pats). He's an exceptional talent and will thrive somewhere, though maybe never here. Same as with Chandler Jones - Arizona is letting him run a bit looser. BB won't do that.

As for the trade, it doesn't help the Pats win THIS year. Unless he was a cancer in the locker room, they could have and should have found places on the field where a talent like that could actually help.

That said, this is good for Collins. Giving him full playing time and letting him run loose will show a lot of ooohs and aaahs and thus, a lot of $$$. So maybe BB did the guy a favor - keeping him here on reduced playing time would have certainly hurt his payday.

And I hope he gets that big payday. Wish him nothing but the best.

Branch was holding out and filed grievances against the team.

Branch didn't file grievances against the team.. Branch WAS holding out after he made the team believe he'd honor his contract. When the team didn't take a WR in the draft, Branch chanced his tune and said screw you, I'm holding out.. This was after they'd already lost Givens to the Titans.

There may still be some players within that locker room that don't "completely" buy into the Pats philosophy but they're smart enough to put the team's interests ahead and move on. It doesn't matter how successful you are, it is impossible that every player is happy with everything all the time.

He did file grievances:

That set off the latest round of fireworks between Branch and the Patriots, with Branch's camp filing two grievances against the club. The first stated that the Patriots received appropriate trade compensation in the form of a second-round pick, and thus should be forced to trade Branch.

The second claimed the Patriots didn't bargain in good faith. The second grievance was scheduled to be heard on Thursday and Friday.

Sorry, but I disagree with you. Collins did INDEED sayin some wrong things. And it gives a picture as to why he is gone.

Jamie Collins}“At the end of the day I’m still getting money said:
Collins IS all about the money. All about himself.. Which is another reason why he's gone..

What I find funny is that he admits that he hasn't been playing as well this year but then can't understand why his snaps would be reduced..

It's tough. If he's just doing what he wants then you might as well get rid of him.

Then I think, what's so great about the Pats scheme to begin with? They don't get pressure, they don't cover (although that's probably more to do with the crappy d-line) they don't get turnovers, they give up time of possession, they give up field position.

They can lay the wood a little bit, I guess, as evidence by half the Bills leaving in body bags. Maybe just have them club teams into submission?

At this point, 48 hours after the deal, it’s clear that the future Hall of Fame coach thought this Patriots team was better off without Collins.

“Again, we’ve already covered it. It’s a bottom-line decision. That’s what it was,” Belichick said. “We’re not going to talk about the 500 things that we could talk about that lead to it. It’s too long, too cumbersome a conversation.”

He left not because of money( I think they will pay HT whatever it takes 11, 12...), but BB knew that after being paid JC's lack of passion and commitment for the game would hurt the team even more...

Unless he was a cancer in the locker room, they could have and should have found places on the field where a talent like that could actually help.

He was getting into arguments with coaches and compromising the defense by going off script.

Totally agree and that's probably what prompted BB to say (in a sarcastic manner) "Lombardi is one of the smartest people I know. You can go talk to him".

Or, alternatively, BB has decided he can use him to get what he wants out in the media without having to do it himself and face the endless discussions and questions about it.

Just stinks that sometimes we go off on bad terms with such great players who we drafted. Guys who are fan favorites

I couldn't even begin to count how many Collins jerseys I see at the patriots home games. I bet you I won't see one at the Seahawks game

After the quotes from Collins, he went from a very likable patriots star to "you're dead to me now "

Lets look at this from a pure business perspective
1. You are assuming that winning the super bowl every year is the Patriots primary goal.
2. Hoodie by his actions shows you it isn't the primary goal year over year.
3. In my view, a Super Bowl win every now and then is perfectly fine for Kraft these days.
4. Trading Collins early sends a message for future contract negotiations with others.
5. Play hardball, and chance getting traded for a few years to the worst team in the league
6. Pats think long term with how the org is managed and run.
7. Short term items like this drive fans crazy, but allow the Pats to maintain Pats goals.
8. Take a look at Cowboys/Redskins. Most important thing in franchise value.
9. If you can maintain franchise value, and increase it, without a Super Bowl win, you are successful.

So in a business sense, the Jamie Collins trade was a brilliant move.

There are some pretty disfunctional families out there too.

Just sayin'

I know some families filled with losers. They stick together a lot tighter than the families I know filled with successful people in them.

Every time I watch this replay, I always wonder what Collins was biting at there. The backfield was empty. About the only thing he could have bit on was Wilson faking a run. But with Collins being lined up on Lynch on the far side of the field with two other players between him and the end of the line of scrimmage, a Wilson run was not his primary responsibility. Covering Lynch was.

It looks like he bit on the slant that Lynch was faking. Which is pretty bad, since if they want to throw a slant to Lynch there and pick up a few yards, then so be it. They need to march 80 yards in 2 minutes, if want to get that 5 yards at a time, then that's an acceptable outcome; not worth gambling on giving up a 35 yard completion if you're wrong and he's hitting you with a double move.

It's just poor situational awareness. If it happens in the middle of the second quarter, I get it - it's reasonable to figure that Marshawn isn't hitting you with a double move into a deep route. They're probably just trying to maintain favorable down/distance by getting 5 yards, and trying to get Marshawn into the second level where he can maybe truck someone and pick up the first down. But with 2 minutes left in a 4 point game, the Seahawks' strategy changes and so should the Patriots' D's.

The Patriots have been fiscally responsible, planning for the impending free agency of its young group of talented defensive players. They let Revis go (at the time I was disappointed but Bill was absolutely right to let him walk), They trade Chandler Jones (I'm still torn on this one. The pass rush has been lethargic without him, but that police station incident and future contract demands forced the issue.)

With those moves I thought there was a good chance Hightower, Collins, Butler, and maybe Sheard could be retained, setting up the defense for years to come. I've tried to let it go, but giving up Jamie has left a horrible taste in my mouth. While not a generational talent he's the type of player that only comes around once every few drafts. They saw the talent to take him in the 2nd and develop him into a top player at his position.

Elandon Roberts has played well with limited snaps in 3 games, granted. What happens if he gets injured? What happens if he stops playing well or starts committing errors on the field?

I'm not a fan of this trade and think both sides should have worked things out.

Hmmmmm the two guys who'd rather play video games then watch game film are now gone. Curious...

Which rookies did they get off on bad terms with?

Name one because it sure isn't Collins.

The reality is that there never were serious contract extension talks as confirmed by Collins' agent. Which means that his move right now is not contract-related. Otherwise they'd have traded him long ago.

According to this article, DB did file a grievance vs the team.

Then the Pats filed tampering charges vs the NYJ

Who's dead to who know? I think it's clear that Collins was chafing a bit over some disagreement on what his role should be and what he thinks he should be paid, but I dunno why we need to go any further than that. He was a very good player for us, I like him, I wish him well going forward, and also I'm okay with the trade if Belichick felt that the team needed to move on from him.
