PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

I believe that the Collins camp was going to be asking for top level LB money. I don't know the exact numbers, but I expect that Collins was going to be asking for every last dollar, and that he wasn't going to be going with "I don't need Kuechly/Miller money, because I want the team to be able to spread the wealth".

I also think, given reports, that this is a Moss situation rather than a Mankins situation.

Seems like everyone tries to cash in with the pats but someone will overpay for collins. I didn't think he was gonna be back. Hope they can lock hightower.

My expectation, barring mid-season agreements happening:

Hightower's either going to re-sign or get tagged.
Butler will get tendered at the highest level.
Sheard, et al, will be the ones left exposed.

This we agree on. Can see a lot of roster churning come February onwards.

I confess I haven;t read the whole thread having just got home from work but I heard it is either 3rd or 4th round pick. I hope it isnt a 4th because IIRC as a result of Deflategate, the same rules apply to next year's 4th rounder taken as the first rounder this year, that is if you trade for a higher pick in that round, you lose the higher pick. So if the Pats had Cleveland's pick,, their own and I believe they own Seattle's pick as the result of one of the trades, they would lose Cleveland;s pick which would likely be at the top of the round.....

Oh and Jamie Collins will likely have the rare pleasure of facing a team three times in one year without needing the playoffs. The Browns play the Bills in December so he will get to face Rex's misfits another time......

Sorry but the more I think on this, a 4th round pick for Jamie Collins??? Really? His stock was higher than that, I cant believe he fell off that much. Locker room issue or not, he'll, you can't tell me Oakland or Dallas gives a rats ass about that.

Listen, I'm the last person that's going to argue with probably the greatest NFL coach that's ever walked the planet - but people get stuff wrong. We're human and our judgement can sometimes be flawed, even if we're the best at something.

Like I said in the other thread, hopefully something is lined up, because right now this appears to be madness.

But... can't you be wrong, too? Not saying you are, but it seems like your argument is that this might be a bad move because it might be a bad move.

He talked about how bad he thought the defense has been (I guess in his opinion). That's probably about as close as we're going to get.
I don't think that's what he actually said. I think he said the defense played well at times and at other times it was disappointing.

Well they have tons of cap space. Shouldn't be a problem resigning some of
these guys. It depends on what price.

I think that was outlined in the "I'm the last person......" bit.

We'll never truly know the ins and outs, but there are as many fans upset with this as there are throwing out the 'trust in Bill line'. That's not coincidence.

This is clearly a locker room move. It's not the first one we've seen Bill make and it won't be the last one either.
Combination locker room and money move.

It seems that was his market value. Looks like teams didn't really think as highly of him as we'd like to believe. Obviously BB felt he was expendable.

Malcolm Butler plays a more of a premier position than Collins. So if its between those two, Butler please

The more I think about the compensation, the more I'm shocked they couldn't find one wacko GM to cough up more. Is it that we overvalued him to that extent or that BB wanted to keep him from a contender ?

So with all of the "insiders", no one ever or has ever, mentioned Jamie Collins as a locker room issue. He has been a stud for us on Defense, granted a little off this year. This sucks. It does not make our defense better, period.
4th round pick, ridiculous.

The trade looks as if it's zeroed out for what the Patriots would have gotten as a comp pick. In other words, reports indicate that the Patriots essentially got rid of Collins 8 games (plus playoffs) early, but will be insured against the post-season pick loss.

Won't we lose Clevelands high 4th round, ala deflategate?

What more do you need to know:
- Free-lancing isn't "doing your job".
- Recently had heated arguments with Defensive Coordinator Matt Patricia
- Supposedly wanted to be paid in the range of Von Miller ($19m). Pats had only offered up $11M/year.
- Supposedly wasn't feeling wanted by the Patriots
- Supposedly told the Patriots he wasn't going to re-sign.

Lombardi claims that the 28 yard run by Gillislee was a direct result of Collins' free-lancing and that Collins' had been free-lancing more this season. Everyone knows that flies in the face of their motto of "Do Your Job"

He got in a heated argument? So what. I don' care how much he wanted to get paid next year, we are trying to win a Super Bowl this year.

You got NOTHING in return for him. You would have received the same draft pick basically the year after he left for free agency.

The bottom line is Bill Belichick didn't want Collins in New England.. He clearly think the Patriots are a better team this year without him on the roster. Which I find very hard to believe.

I could understand if we got something in return for him but we really didn't. We would have received compensatory picks anyway.

Especially if they offered him 11 million dollars a year they clearly liked Jamie Collins. Thats not Von Miller money but its alot of money. So the Pats thought he had alot of value.. which makes me scratch my head even more.

Apparently the language is going to be 2017 3rd round compensatory pick or 2018 4th rounder.
