PATS TRADE JAMIE COLLINS!!!

if you are a player on this team and you dont yet realize that no one is more important than the other players in that locker room (outside of Brady of course) - then your career wont be long in New England... This team's motto is the Whole is greater than the sum of its parts - and it will remain that way as long as Belichick runs this team

Brady is another guy on the team. I will never understand why people think he is exempt from BB's system. When the cost outweighs the production, he is gone.

BS it was clearly the o-line and EVEN with all that pressure all Gost had to do was make a kick.

You're all over the place. A second ago I saw you posting the exact opposite point of view.

People that say "they would have gotten a pick in 2018" need to brush up on how compensatory works. Absolutely zero guarantee that would happen.

I wish someone would call into 98.5 and say that.

We have to hope that Cleveland gets the 3rd. If they don't and Cleveland ships off their fourth... isn't that one going to Roger Goodell then?

You are Absolutely correct, I forgot about that

You're owner didn't fire Bill Polian.......... remember that? yeah Ralph Wilson did that, he went and won a superbowl. Bills fans call that our superbowl, many of us wrote to Bill as such. New England let a guy looking for money go get it somewhere else after suffering the rest of season in cleveland. at least in cleveland collins can enjoy some kind of championships around him. there's worse places right now trust me. the rest of the team is looking at it like, "we're the infantry, he's the commander who's won a lot of wars, the guy who left didn't want to win the war"
Wait....wut?

wow..it's their highest 4th..right?

Quick question (and I saw the tweet posted somewhere else in the thread but can't find it again).

Is it true that if the Borwns don't get a compensatory 3rd rounder that the trade is a 4th round pick? Also, as a Browns fourth rounder would be the highest 4th pick the Pats have (NE and Sea should have better records) this could be the pick the Pats lose for Deflategate?
If that is the case, did the Pats just trade Collins for the ability to keep two fourth round picks in 2017 or are they fairly certain the Browns will have a 3td round compensatory pick awarded.

Yes, it's true.
No, the pick the Pats will lose is their own 4th rounder
I have no idea

Basically, it was a game day thread, and has only gotten marginally better.

BB is an idiot don't you know, has no idea how to build a team, or what a player is worth in trade.

at least everyone is b*tching about just one thing. game day threads would lead you to believe the Pats are the second coming of Cleveland

Collins could've done better, but at least one of them was due to a general coverage breakdown. I'm blaming the Daniels TDs on the coaching staff for wasting TE stopper Chung on Vernon Davis.

They were clearly a miles apart in contract negotiations and Elandon Roberts has impressed enough to allow BB to see a future at LB. Still sucks we only got a 3rd rounder for him though.
If he left this year pats could get comp pick for him. They probably got 3rd comp from Browns(Mack) a year before and they ll be without him this year
I am worried about this years D and Collins wasnt superstar on it. Maybe Mingo or Mclelin shows something to BB. Dont know. ANd this prevent D is balloney. Against Miami they played real D and Tannenhill threw 3TD on them. Not prevent D.
ANd maybe some message to others players and agents. If you want to be divas, then we ll send you to Browns.
ANd High and Bennet are priorites for me.

Hopefully he retires before it comes to that. Not looking forward to the Patriots Red Wedding.

This move is absolutely stupid. I'd rather win a Super Bowl and let him walk for nothing then trade him to the Browns for what's gonna be a low 4th when it's all said and done since it's a compensatory pick.

I'm sorry, this is without a doubt the worst trade Bill has ever made and makes no sense whatsoever.

Mankins was washed up. Jones you got a decent haul for and had time to replace him.

But trading your best LB mid season for a pick when you're defense clearly isn't all there yet, lacking a pass rush, just to save money?

WTF

This has nothing to do with changing opinion on players. Nobody of the sane peope here says that Collins sucks. In fact he is a pretty good player with insane measurables and elite potential but this is his fourth year. The point being, if he still has not shown he can consistently show up with dominant performances then there is a good chance that it will not happen and this is a big issues if he wants to be paid on an All Pro level.

What many people here seem to forget is that in parallel to the actual sport being played on the field there is another game going on in parallel in terms of juggling cap space/deciding who to invest in. This was mostly a business move where we got an additional day 2 pick for 8 games of a pretty good player.

I wish we could have kept him for a considerably longer time but with the contract numbers being floated there was no way this was happening.
See, you can give out good arguments.

I disagree with you on the basis that we would VERY LIKELY get the same thing (3rd/4th round comp pick) if we retained him for this year. It would take effect in 2018, so it is a one year advantage, if you want to call it like this. Plus we get the added disadvantage of having NO BACK-UPS to a good player. We have HT, which has been hurt a lot recently but is really good and Roberts, who is a rookie and not at the same level of Collins. Then we have nobody, cause Freeny is IR'ed.

The chicken little's on here must be in celebration mode...

That being said, I like the theory that this is leading up to a big move this week.

Garrapolo for Von Miller?

One of the best defenders on the team with freakish ability that makes him one of the best in the league is now 'out for the season' from the Patriots' perspective. How could that NOT prompt a reaction from the fanbase?

Holy f*ck what a joke. Only a 3rd round pick?

Both Collins and Jones gone? Unbelievable.
