Lions trade LB Kyle Van Noy (& 7th) to Patriots for 6th round draft pick

Van Noy started every game and played 60% of the snaps for the Lions, so this doesn't quite sound like when the Titans gave Ayers away a few years ago. Similar kind of player, though.

Edit: And of course, it's the exact same trade. 7th+player for 6th.

FIrst reaction - "and so it begins"

Second reaction - Who the F%ck is Kyle van Troy.

BB ALWAYS keeps us on our toes and is full of surprises.

Honestly, there are times I believe he does these things just to mess with the sportswriters and the barstool fans.

Does detroit play a 4-3? Maybe he's suited better in a 3-4. We will see.

6'3" 243 lbs, 26 years old. This is his 3rd year, all 3 with Detroit. Ran a 7.22 3 cone, drafted 40th overall in 2nd rd.

Gotta be a depth pickup for sure.
You would think that with Mingo, Roberts, McClellan, and Ninko able to play LB we have plenty of LB depth (especially when you compare it to DT and the OL). Besides 7.22 is not exactly an earth shattering 3 cone time. Though being picked #40 is impressive.

I can't say I understand this trade, but like I said in an earlier post, BB/Casserio's in-season personnel moves have been overwhelmingly positive over the years. No all were home runs, but most didn't hurt.

We downgraded a 6th rounder to a 7th for him. Safe to say his spot isn't safe.

...by the Lions, so it's a little less impressive.

I guess we will see. I don't know who he is or why BB traded for him...thus, IBBWT

More info: the Lions are sending Van Noy and a 7th round pick for a 6th round pick, per source.

So, an almost certain bottom of the 6th round pick for Van Noy and a likely mid-to-late 7th.

Any chance of getting the Steelers young backers.
I dont think Aaron Lynch was up for sale.
Would definitely like a Akeem Ayers reunion.

And he's one in a line of LBs who BB loves to add mid-season. Akeem Ayers, Casillas, Bostic are others that come up.

Trade is low risk and allows Bill and Patricia to get their hands on the kid his college highlights remind me of Jason Taylor dare I say.

Nice summary here from Hill:
Van Noy started his rookie 2014 season on the injured reserve, and our friends at Pride of Detroit note that Van Noy had been “playing poorly in most areas in 2015”, with just 7.7% of the Lions defensive snaps. He clearly hasn’t improved to Detroit’s liking in his third season.

Still, Van Noy has started all 7 games for the Lions this year and has played 60.6% of the defensive snaps so it’s not like he hasn’t been contributing. He has collected 23 tackles and a pass defended. He also ranks 7th on the team in special teams snaps, so he’ll have a defined role with the Patriots.

I wonder if this move is related at all to the injury situation with Freeny and possibly McClellin.

Great college athlete, meh NFL player. I remember him in college and wanted the Pats to draft him. But really hasn't done squat in the NFL, kinda like the Mingo move, great athletes, but not great football players.

To quote RAC from SB 36, "I need rushers, I need rushers". Would've rather traded for someone who could possibly sack the QB. In BB we trust.

Van Noy... he might be a distant relative of...

Dr. Van Nostrand... from the clinic.

It should be noted that Casillas is having a career year with Giants and has been as big an impact player as some of their high priced signings.

In the end, it might be worth dropping about 15 spots to pick up someone who most felt wasn't over drafted at the time.
