So the Patriots extended Brady 2 years and drafted Brissett during the offseason, what about that indicates they see Garoppolo as the future?

Bradys deal is not guaranteed past this year, or am i wrong?

Anybody?

Bueller?

The biggest unknown—and I'm guessing we'll never get an honest answer on this—is what the Patriots think is the likelihood of Brady playing, say, another 5 years at (roughly) his current level.

I really wish Bill Simmons would've asked Lombardi what he thought about that on his podcast. I feel like his answer could also reflect Bill & Co's thoughts as well. Instead, Simmons killed discussions on the Pats several times and cut to doing promos.

There's no way Lombardi would have answered that question honestly.

Is anyone here actually freaking willing to admit that Tom is going to eventually retire?? Because he is.

No one is trying to kick him out the door but at some point you have to look at the future. ****, BB said straight up that's why we drafted JG so early in the 2nd round. I want Tom to play, I want him to shove that SB trophy so far up goodells ass he can taste it. BUT I also want our team to be good for the next 10 years after Tom. Brissett is not that guy, Cassel was not that guy, nor was Mallet or Hoyer. JG IS THAT GUY. Period. Watch the 1st half of Miami again, watch the Cardinals game again. Franchise QBs don't grow on trees and Bill knows it. I don't think Jimmy is going anywhere, and while all the picks we can get may sound promising, like I said in another thread, that does not garuntee them a franchise quarter back that can step in after Tom is done. We have one. Keep him.

But the point I believe some are making here is that how do you KNOW that JG is "The One"? How the **** is 6 quarters of football enough to judge that? And you mention Matt Cassell, and even he played 16 (!!!) games and got shipped away, only to get paid by someone else later.

You don't know unless you see it for a long period of time, and even then it isn't long enough to determine it. But trade Brady discussions should be out of the question at this VERY MOMENT, especially when everyone has seen the way he has played in the preseason. The Carolina game where he threw the TD to Hogan comes to mind; it was effortless, and against one of the top Ds #1 guys. Until Brady shows any obvious sign of deterioration between now and next year, which I HIGHLY DOUBT, we should enjoy the ride, whereever it takes us.

Jimmy G has a shown a lot of traits that the better QBs in this league have. We don't know what heights he could potentially reach, but showing mobility in the pocket with quick accurate throws to receievers in stride against a couple of good pro-level defenses is something that is hard to come by in this league.

I love TB, but this is a potential unique scenario that is a good problem to have.

The only way you do it, is if a sure fire franchise QB a la Luck was there for you and you could get him plus another pick, then you do it.

As I stated in the game thread. Teams (even this one) have searched for decades in futility for a QB such as Jimmy G. The real questions now is, is he fragile? Sucks to say it but who knows. If the Pats are smart, on his down time, they should show him videos of TB and how he absorbs contact to stay away from catastrophic have injuries.

So in the end I agree with your post. No number of first round picks is worth Jimmy G and sacrificing an unlikely continuation of a dynasty unlike any other.

Sometimes, you have to admit it just might not be your season. Last year when we lost Dion Lewis to a torn ACL, you couldn't help but feel that perhaps the football gods aren't on your side that year.

We escaped ARZ with a missed FG by the other team, and with TB suspended we may have actually benefited by getting the answer loud and clear if JG is a potential franchise level QB.

As they say, 'even when we lose, we win'.

With insurance at TE/WR thanks to the additions of Bennett and Hogan/Mitchell, we may never see another Patriots team like this again. We are blessed as a fanbase in this era and I can't wait to see how this all unfolds.

GO PATS #oneforthethumb

Miguel would be the best person to look into this, but with Brady's contract it seems highly unlikely Jimmy G is the long term answer for the Pats. Brady still has $27mil of dead cap in 2017 and $14mil in 2018, so I can't see them trading or cutting him and taking that cap hit. Jimmy G is under contract for 2017 and would need to be franchised in 2018 for around $22mil. There is no way the Pats carry both Brady (either contract or cap hit) and Jimmy G for 2018.

So I think the most logical course of action for the Pats is to trade Jimmy G, either when Brady gets back after week 4, or more likely in the offseason. There is also the option of franchising and trading Jimmy after 2017 but I think that both limits his trade value and is a huge risk tying up so much cap until he can be moved. In the end I think the most likely result is that Jimmy G is traded this offseason for the best package available. I can't see BB passing up the trade value and using 3 roster spots on QB's in 2017.

I think Jimmy certainly has the look of a quality starting NFL QB and I would love him to succeed Brady, I just can't see the timing or money working out.

I think this team is SB caliber. If they win with Brady and he looks like he did last year, i think the odds are good he would fetch 2 firsts. He would turn a lot of teams into SB contenders over night if only for 2-4 years.

This is the killer post.

So trading Brady for two first round picks would be possible because "he would turn a lot of teams into SB contenders".......?????

That's exactly why you keep him on this team. I want this team to be a SB contender.

Do you know if JG can turn a team into a SB contender? No you don't.

I refuse to admit it until he eats a strawberry [emoji526]

well favre to rodgers happened too. i wanna see brady win 1 more and retire gracefully in 2020 and jimmy g gives us another great 15 year run. that would be a dream scenario.
I want to see Brady win 4 more and retire kicking and screaming.
