Jimmy's Value

The thing is guys.. Garoppolo is not a bargain anymore. We all saw what brock o got based on 6 games or 8 cant remember... Jimmy's salary next year based on how hes looked will be at least that. Which is more than brady because brady gives a home town discount. We cant keep him. We will frachise him and trade him.
He's under contract through 2017. He's ours for another year on rookie deal.

Franchise him after 2017, meaning we should have them each (Brady/Garrapolo) for the next 3 years? Have Brady sign for next to nothing in his last season in order to bridge the transition from Tom to Jimmy? That would be the ultimate team move from Tom's perspective assuming their contractual situation allows for that.

Jimmy helped his trade value today, let's just say that.

People who want him to replace Brady, though... I dunno what to say to that. We'd have to replace Brady in the next year (not going to happen) or pay a cap-crippling amount at QB by franchising Jimmy.

And more importantly, it undersells how good Brady continues to be, for starters, and it undersells how good Belichick/McDaniels have been at getting these guys ready to play. 2 years from now, chances are good that Brissett will be as good as Garoppolo was today, and then we can have this whole discussion again.

Why on earth would someone assume at this point that Brissett will be tossing nearly 3 touchdowns a quarter against a division rival in two years? Or that there would even be an opportunity to have him start a regular season game to find out what he is?

Love how fanboys putting lipstick on a pig

Luckily practice and the preseason exist, so that the Pats will be able to have a pretty good idea of what kind of QB Brissett is by the time a decision needs to be made in a couple years. Not to mention that 2 weeks from now there will be more competitive game tape on Brissett than there is on Garoppolo anyway.

In any case, I can't see how that option would make you incredulous, when the alternative is moving on from the GOAT QB--a guy who' still in the MVP conversation every year and shows no signs of slowing down--based on 6 quarters of good play from his backup.

The only thing about jimmy is the durability concern. You have to be healthy to be great, i have seen tom absorb earth shattering hit only to get right back up like it was nothing. Also there will be time where the pats don't get up to a fast start and Jimmy will need to generate magic to bail the team out. Beside that Jimmy has been everything else you could dream as a QB, would love to see more from him.

Literally every one of you who wants to trade Brady are worse than Goodell.

I'd rather go 1-15 with Brady ending his career with us than trading Brady off because you got a new shiny and forgot what a ****ing dumpster fire we were before Brady & Belichick.
That's great. I wouldn't. I'm quite sure Bill wouldn't either. The entire point of everything Bill has ever done is the long term benefit of the team.

Tom is a tough SOB. Played the 02 finale w a dislocated shoulder.

So you are saying you enjoyed the dumpster fire so much that you want to return to those years?
Why would anyone be willing to go 1-15?

If a team is smart they trade their whole draft for him. Once you see a guy do it in the NFL like he did you have to make the move

To be clear, I don't think you move on from TB. I think this is your chance to go down in history with 5-7 Superbowls.

Nah, Brady's cap hit is 22m, and it would cost roughly that to franchise Garoppolo for just a year. We'd have 45m dollars tied up in quarterbacks.

Assuming Brady plays at a high level this year, I trade Jimmy for a minimum of a high 1st and 2nd. His trade value is high and there is no way BB tries to keep both quarterbacks.

Why would you say that? I think it likely BB keeps both.

Oh man I wish you were the Browns GM.

After 2017 the Bears can cut Cutler and only have $1M in dead money. Jimmy could sign there and go home to where he was born, played high school and college football. Or he could go to Cleveland or many other teams. Why would the Patriots risk getting nothing like the Broncos did with Brock this offseason.

I still say keep him if we can some how make it work. You don't give up QBs that look that freaking good. Draft picks are not garunteeing you a good player, plenty of busts out there. This is not a Matt Cassel, Hoyer or Mallet situation. The kid can freaking play. I mean I know it would be almost impossible to make it happen but I just personally can't get on the trade him wagon. I hope we don't. Hang on to him till Brady is done.

The coaching staff has been watching Brissett every day playing on the scout team, after 40 years BB can gauge upside and where his progress is relative to others he has seen play the position.
