When Will the Gronkmonster Return?

My question remains, does Gronk deserve to be the highest paid tight end in football even though he
is guaranteed to miss games every year? Do you include a bonus in his contract for games
played?

Here's the list of tight ends who have been more productive than Gronk, not on a per-game-played basis, but overall over the past 6 seasons (or over any 6-season stretch, by any TE, in NFL history):

:crickets:

I don't really understand how professional athletes deal with hamstring injuries so often. I toured professionally for a few years in a performing arts company (I was an acrobat and a base for lifts, often holding 3 - 4 people in the air at a time; very similar to Cirque du Soliel), and I also ran a gym for a number of years. We spent a lot of time maintaining balanced muscle development so that we didn't overstrain joints or muscle groups. Proper strength and conditioning, combined with adequate warming up and cool down, stretching, etc, should nearly eliminate muscle strains.

I get that injuries happen, but in football, it seems like everyone has a hammy problem at one time or another. Kind of weird.

I'm guessing he doesn't come back until after next Thursday's game, meaning he misses the first 3.

He isn't likely to play in two games over the next 9 days.

I no longer routinely expect Gronk to be active for any game. I believe he will be active soon, but I I'm not holding my breath. I think he'll play for at least 4-5 more years, but I'd guess he'll average about 8-10 games per season, including playoffs. He has a maniacal playing style that he says he'll never modify, other teams and players try to injure him (hello Broncos and Ward as examples) and he has an agent and family who correctly encourage him to be cautious about playing hurt. I'm prepared to get used to it. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Just as I begin to warm up to you again, you stick the knife right in my heart...Heartstabberfly
Hope I'm way off, bud.

I just think that TNF game throws a wrench into things. If Belichick agrees, it may be best to give him that extra rest before game four.

I have no idea but I really can't wait to see him out there with Bennett, so I hope it is soon. I just want to see this:

On the other side of the field from this:

My conspiracy theory is that Gronk is listening to his doctors, his body and his family and not Patriots doctors, trainers and coaches. Its his body and livelihood and has the right to play when he thinks he can play.
Since when has a Patriots coach ever rushed a player back from injury??

I expect him to play Sunday. I think the decision to leave him home Sunday was to rest and rehab the injury for 3 straight home games.

None that we know about officially.
And if you really look at BBs history there is no way you can conclude anything other than his tendency is to bring back players more slowly and conservatively from injury than other teams.

I think they pushed Gronk for the playoff game vs HOU and I have no way of proving it.

Tough to say. He clearly was ready to play. I don't know how you judge the chance of rebreaking a bone.
Didn't he play the week before (2 weeks because of the bye)?

He played a bit vs MIA on the last game of the year. He was medically cleared. The question is by whom? The popular theory is that Gill was an enabler and was rubber stamping players to play but his departure was more about MGH politics than NEP player health.

IMO when it comes to injuries there is some distrust/leeriness between the team and Team Gronk. Just can't put my finger on when it all came to ahead but I suspect it was around the end of the 2012 season.

Your question earlier about when the team rushed a player back.....Ted Johnson re: concussions. With that said there is dispute to the story.

Hamstring injuries can be extremely stubborn.
Hamstring injuries also are generally avoidable through proper conditioning and proper warming up. This is frustrating. Makes you wonder if Gronk ever will get through a full season without time on the shelf.

I don't buy any of that team Gronk had its own agenda crap.
My point was, however, if you look at BBs history he is much much much more likely to hold a player back an extra week than bring him back early.

its getting extremely old.
