Notable NFL Roster Cuts

I have to dig into this a bit further, but I think the answer is no. I think they can hold onto him for much less than that; I recall the Patriots claiming guys off waivers before, quickly releasing them, clearing waivers again, and then resigning to the practice squad.

When you sign a player to your 53-man roster off of someone else's practice squad, then yes, there is a longer minimum. I feel it's 3-5 weeks, but again I'll have to look it up.

I'm not sure if the rule is that you have to pay the player or keep the player, but it's 3 weeks.

As an aside, it looks like Chris Jones has a good chance of sticking with the LOLphins.

As I thought did Chris Jones when healthy, aka the man Dom Easily wishes he could become.

I watched the Rams play the other night and easley did not look bad. But for every 4 good snaps he took, there was the clunker snap. I.e.: out of place and eaten alive.

Reed and Evans are definitely intriguing. I'd like to see if Evans has anything left in the tank. He's an instant upgrade if he's healthy and still reasonably athletic.

Otherwise, the waiver wire seems pretty bare. Reading through the other team's cuts gives me greater appreciation for the Patriots' depth and talent. Some real castoffs. I don't see much value in the flotsam and jetsam.

Reports indicate that Eric Rowe is on the trade block. He was a 2nd round pick last year with great size and speed. I know we have promising young corners, but Rowe would give us size we don't have currently. I'd be ecstatic to see us being him in, and I think he could thrive here.

Interesting but you have to ask why the Eagles are trading him?
My guess he gets traded for a 5th or 6th but it won't be here.
He doesn't have that quick twitch BB seems to prefer in his corners.
Agree love his size though.

They want to wash themselves of all things Chip Kelley. It's the Howie Rosen show now.

Plus not sure Chip knows how to eval and use CBs

Certainly the important part of the equation is what's wrong behind the scenes. I did read an encouraging article though that showed tight coverage and him just missing the ball; he owned up to using the wrong techniques, and explained how he could have played better. Thought it was a thoughtful, mature response. He took responsibility and seemed to have the ability to self-analyze.

As for the quick twitch issue: he ran a 6.70 3 cone and a 3.97 SS, which are exceptional marks. He is more than capable of playing press man against big targets. Last year he got his first real playing time against Calvin Johnson, and he was very close in coverage for all the catches. Thought he played okay against us the next week. He also handled Sammy Watkins one on one pretty well.

Malcolm Jenkins had very good things to say about him, too. When a veteran safety is happy with a rookie corner's play and attitude, then that's a good sign. Also, keep in mind that he has his best football still ahead of him; he played one year at CB after playing safety most of his college career. He only started the last 5 games of his rookie season. Huge upside.

IIRC you gotta KEEP the player on the 53 for those weeks. An inventive to be serious about the move. I like the rule as it provides at least some protection for a player just being used to snatch him away from an opponent.

Nit a cut but news nonetheless. Wow. Guess Wentz is the starter in PHI. Big news for MIN too.

One thing to remember: you can't claim a player off another team's PS. If he doesn't want to sign with you willingly, you're SOL. There are also specific limitations about signing players off another team's PS in the run-up to a game with that team.

Flabbergasted. We should have offered Garoppolo and just started Brissett.

Maybe they'll be riding high on the emotions, and we can send them a late round pick for Rowe. I'd love to have him on the team. Went back and watched him play against us last year, and he was very good. Big hits, pass breakups, and generally aggressive play. I'm obsessed with this idea for today. It will pass soon. . . .

Great day to be an Eagles fan, not so great a day to be a Vikings fan, especially a Vikings fan near a tall building or sharp objects.
