NFL threatens to suspend 4 players from Al Jazeera report indefinitely if they don't interview

They could have at least given off the appearance of going after Manning with the same ferocity that they went after Brady while Manning was still in the league.

The NFL knew Manning was retiring (everyone did) and waas never going to investigate him while he was active. For some reason the Donks are one of Goodell's favorite franchises and I have no idea why.

I'm guessing the interview went like this:

RG: Come in Peyton! (hugs and kisses)
PM: I did nothing wrong!
RG: We all know that Peyton. How about lunch, on us of course.
PM: Yeah! Got any chicken parm?
RG: Sure Peyton, anything for you. Would you autograph my stuff on the desk?
PM: No problem, but I have to catch a plane, right after my chicken parm of course.
RG: That's my boy! (hugs and kisses) I'll make the announcement you are cleared of all suspicion asap.
PM: Thanks Rog (hugs and kisses)

I'm sure it went something like this:

Manning could have shot Goodell's wife, wiped his bloodies hands off on Goodell's curtains, and kicked Goodell's dog on the way out of the house, and he would have gotten off. He's the exception that proves the rule, because he was the only player bigger than the league.
Nope, sorry, the dog would have been a bridge too far!

Perhaps it was more like:

PM: Look, if you leave me alone, I'll tell you all about it because I have a six figure speech to give somewhere about leadership...

If you think about it if the NFL simply stole the 1st round draft pick from each team they could save a lot of money on the salaries of unproven rookies

Brilliant idea
They should take everyone's 1st rounder and start the draft on the second.

The more I think about- Peyton sold out those 4 players so he could ride off in to the sunset. He "came clean" to Roger in exchange for immunity. Now Roger holds all the cards, and wants to catch these guys lying to his face when he has some proof.

So Peyton admits hgh was shipped to his house and gets off, and all the other guys are facing suspensions at the expense of the CBA?

I really wish one of the 4 players (my vote would be for James Harrison) to very bluntly point out how Manning screwed over the union. Manning could have said "I'm retired, I don't have to tell you anything" and the NFL couldn't touch him. Instead, he cooperated, or, at least, let the league say he cooperated, and hung the 4 active players out to dry.

The players will continue to get screwed in this league as long as the owners have the anti trust exemption to hide behind.

You see, most employees working for an employer under these conditions would simply quit and seek employment from an employer that treats its employees better. And I'm not even talking about article 46, the free agency rules would be illegal in any other industry too.

If your profession is Football you don't have the right to seek employment from an other employer within your profession because the league was awarded an exemption which allows it to be recognized as the employer not the teams.

****dell is a f*** face but I don't have any sympathy for them because according to a lot of steelers and packers fans logic if they don't do those interviews then they must be hiding something and that means it is true.

it sounds like the PA effectively daring Roger to throw the book at them which could mean a lost season or more for the players.

How long before Warner says he doesn't think the Steelers cheated to win the SB but, doesn't think he should wonder if they did.

That's what the Mannings do, all of them - look out for #1 all the time and at all costs. Case in point: Little Eli, under Papa Archie's tutelage, kicking, crying and screaming until the Chargers shipped him to New Jersey.

While you're right that the Mannings are always looking out for #1 and only for #1 and don't care about anyone else, personally I don't really blame Eli for refusing to go to San Diego. Anyone else, yeah, but the Chargers are a maliciously incompetent organization, just look at what they're trying to pull with Bosa right now. Until ownership changes there, I'll be on board with any player who pulls out all the stops to avoid that dumpster fire.

I think the same scenario would have played out if it had been any number of places other than SD. The privileged little puke wasn't going anywhere he didn't feel like going. No argument from me about the high degree of douchery (did I just invent a word?) present in SD these days.

I think for the first time ever...I'm actually rooting for a Steeler. I need a shower.

The Steelers were the only team that did not vote for the last CBA, and reasoning given was that they thought it gave Goodell too much and too broad of authority over player discipline. I don't like the organization at all, but this is one case where I'll give them credit. They're the only franchise that saw this coming and had the backbone to object to it, from ownership on down.

I can't even totally blame the Steelers' ownership for failing to display public common sense during Deflategate. If I was them, knowing that Kraft had been Goodell's biggest cheerleader when it was their players getting suspended, I wouldn't have thrown the Pats a lifeline either.

Fair enough, I don't agree there in that I think San Diego is uniquely bad about trying to nickel and dime its draft picks and cut corners in ways that endanger players and **** with their careers (how many careers did they shorten/end by negligently allowing David Chao to continue being the team physician?). I doubt the Mannings would have resorted to such drastic measures otherwise, but you could very well be right.

FWIW, living in SoCal I'm surrounded by Chargers fans, and the general consensus is that they think ownership and FO are a bunch of **** ups, Bosa is right to hold out, and increasingly that all the talent that's fled was right to do so. The Spanos family has done a remarkably thorough job of alienating its fanbase. At the moment I'd say it's about as bad as the McCourt Dodgers era, but still has a ways to go before it can approach the Donald Sterling Clippers era.
