Mason can actually be a pretty good RG, I think. I would be happy if Thuney and Mason were our "guards of the future." Kline is a fine backup especially considering he can backup the entire IOL including C. The Tackle situation is a little worrisome though.

Intrigued by all the news about Carter. He's not very big, but you don't have to be big if you're savvy and you can get behind the defender. EDIT: He ran a 4.4 forty and benched 17 reps. Very intrigued.

I don't like that they're booing Jimmy G, especially in a practice setting, but TFB and the O have been booed for bad performances before. If I recall, TFB himself (and maybe Edelman too) have made comments to the effect that they deserved it.

There's an impossibly high standard here. Those first few years after Brady finally hangs em up are going to hurt.

I think folks are still blinded in their never-ending want to compare JG to TB when that shouldn't be the case. Everyone knows (or at least should know) that NOBODY WILL EVER BE TB. But we've been so used to seeing great football by one of the greatest to ever do it that even a notch or two below that is seen as horrible for us. I think it's a stigma that frankly needs to be taken care of before the season starts.

I'll wait for JG to go thru 4 preseason games to evaluate his progress.......one or two practices are not an indication of how he will react under actual game conditions.....as long as he is going thru his progressions and managing the play calling he should be fine, however, if he loses his confidence, all bets are off.

I agree with you. I don't think that's going to happen though. I still think we have the horses to go 3-1 through that stretch (that Arizona game could be a *****), and there will be all kinds of caterwauling here and in the Boston media. Some of those ****ers will be too happy to start writing the Pats' epitaph.

It was a few years ago when it dawned on me that it was tough to watch other teams play. With very few exceptions, the QB play is so far below our standard that it's almost cringe inducing. I realized how lucky we truly are.

Mason's ceiling is pretty high. He's already an excellent run blocker. If Dante can hone him in when it comes to pass protection, he could be an All Pro RG. He really has to improve that aspect of his game, though. I wouldn't say he was terrible in 2015. He was a rookie coming from a run heavy offense in college and thrust into a starter role on a Super Bowl team. All things considered, he held up better than I thought he would. But he's nowhere near what you would want protecting the pocket. Dante coming back should do wonders for him.

My only concern is, 3rd year in the same offense, shouldn't be struggling so much and making rookie mistakes. I give him a mulligan yesterday after going 10-22, but with 5 or 6 drops by his receivers.

I've been supporting all summer stating I think he'll do great, but I'm slightly concerned. But as we've all seen, sometimes he struggles in practice, but does better in games. I'm hoping that's the case. We shall see tomorrow.
I understand the concern as a fan, but really the only concern we need to be focused on is BB's concerns. If all of a sudden he signs a Vet QB then it's time to be concerned for Jimmy's future, until then I simply think it is a young QB facing adversity for the 1st time at this level and he needs to work through it and learn from it. Heck he might even be pushing to hard trying to live up to the standard set by Brady.......those are some pretty big cleats to fill.

As I recall, it took the board about a month of football before they finally got used to Cassel in 2008.

I think the OT thing is kind of overblown. 90% of the league is in the same situation. Name me a team that has a #3 OT that could be a starter and i'll name you a player who will very soon be a starter or is gonna hit the market when his contract is up and get paid to be a starter

Ya Cannon sucks and all that but i'm sure fans of most of the other teams think their backup OT sucks too.

Then again i'm of the opinion (and hope) that Waddle beats him out in camp and becomes a serviceable #3 OT with Scar coaching him.

I'll say it again, NO offensive lineman has ever made me more afraid for Brady's safety and health than Marcus Cannon. He showed such promise very early on in his career. But he has been ABYSMAL the past two especially.

We're starting to act like Philly fans. They're booing a kid who is obviously still learning? That's bad, especially since it sounds like his receivers haven't been doing him any favors.

It's not so bad I think. At least he can some experience with this sort of fan reaction and learn to ignore the noise if things aren't going well during the regular season.

I believe they were referencing a game situation. And not for nothing, but there have been times when I've complained that the crowd isn't cheering loud enough...almost like winning is guaranteed. Legit, there have been times I've wondered if we were up in a game based on the indifference of the crowd. High standards or not, I don't feel you should boo if you're not going to cheer. I know I compared the booing to Philly fans, but you never have to wonder if one of their teams is doing well. It's always obvious.

There are times when the team has deserved it, but it's ridiculous in a practice seeing...a FREE session. You pay for tickets. You don't pay for practice. F+ck off (not you Nikolai)!

Nikolai, I'm not attacking you at all. I'm just annoyed by it.

Yup, especially since we knew he wasn't a good pass blocker when he was drafted. It's not like it snuck up on anyone.

I would say he's getting booed more for the fact that everyone is pissed off about Brady

I respectfully disagree. The crowd is booing him because he hasn't played well. Most understand that Brady will return after 4 games and are fully supportive of JG for the first month. They wouldn't be booing him if he was playing better.
