Jets Suck -- 2016 Edition (Official): Futility Confirmed

If true, I'm glad. I'm not a huge Fitz fan. At least not at anything above 5mil.

Though supposedly Brick has been mulling retirement all offseason and keeping the Jets in the loop. Word is he wants to get into politics. Met him a couple times. Seemed to have a good head on his shoulders (so he may be over-qualified).

Time came to decide. He was gonna be asked to take a pay cut regardless of Fitz. Guess he made the smart choice for himself and his family. Can't be mad at that. Sucks. But what are ya gonna do?
Very good player for a long time, and one of the best pure pass blockers in the league (though his run blocking was only average) It won't be easy for the Jets to find a suitable replacement and now becomes a HUGE question mark for the team.

On the positive side, it "should" make it possible for the Jets to now sign Fitzpatrick, who had a career year last season. I will find it interesting to see how the rank and file Jet fans are going to view this

Yup, big hole at LT now. My guess is they bring in a vet who will certainly be a downgrade from Brick (even as he's been declining). Then also make it a priority in the draft. Either using the 20th overall or perhaps even moving up with a Wilkerson trade.

Downside: downgraded/unknown at LT.
Upside: Over 23mil freed up in cap space with Brick/Wilk gone and hopefully a new LT for years to come.

I don't understand how Jets fans think it will be so easy to trade Wilkerson for a high pick. Granted he is a very good player, but the fact is that it will be very difficult for a team to play Wilk what he wants PLUS give up a high pick.

The Pats were lucky to get a very low 2nd round pick for proven pass rusher who is still under contract this season, from a team desperate for a pass rusher. Wilerson is looking for a elite contract. It will be one thing to pay him a max contract. He might even play well enough to be worth it. However its another to pay him AND give up a #1 pick. That is a tough combination to find. I can't see the Jets getting better than a 3rd round pick for him and for that price they'd be better off keeping him and paying him what he wants.

With Furgeson's retirement, they shouild be able to structure a deal with Mo that will give them some cap enough cap relief this season that will allow them to pay Fitzpatrick for the next 2 seasons

I'm not saying we'll get a top pick plus keep ours. It may be an exchange. Give up Mo and our 20th for some other team's #1 pick.

Don't really see keeping Wilk as a good plan, even if we could somehow afford it. That's just too much money spent at DE when we have two great options other than Wilk in Sheldon and Williams. It'd sure be nice, but other areas of the team would suffer.

And other teams have to be asking the Rats if Wilkerson is such a great player why didn't you pay him and why do you keep drafting other defensive linemen?

Yeah, I think now that players are a lot more educated on the health risks of playing football, decisions like this will become fairly common. If you're Ferguson, and you're a smart guy in pretty good health who's already made a whole lot of money, I can definitely see how you'd conclude that there's more to gain by retiring than sticking around.

Sometimes it just comes down to not being able to afford everyone. Leonard Williams, in this case, was probably drafted because they knew they couldn't afford to keep him. Kinda like how signing Sheard didn't mean the Patriots thought less of Chandler Jones as a player even though they traded him. They just knew they wouldn't be able to afford to pay him. Jones is a hell of a player, he was going to cost the most and was probably less indispensable than Collins and Hightower. I think it's the same case with Wilkerson here.

"OUCH!..That Hurtington...about time they got rid of DeBustasack Rickshaw...I coulda been Mini Brady, instead of a two bit washed up bum..which is what I am..."

Typical Jest fan...

Think some of you may appreciate this...

And here I was worried about the tough schedule.

At least now we know your real identity, Mr. Green(beans)berg.

@Tunescribe , you "disagree" with Greeny? You know he works for ESPN right? The worldwide leader in sports.

The state of Florida sez the Jets suck...SSDD
