In Rice's best year he averaged 5.3 ypc, identical to Donald Brown's.

While playing with Baltimore, Rice's ypc averaged out to 4.3 ypc, identical to Brown's average with Indy. In Brown's two years with SD his numbers went down.

Ray Rice has just about twice as many carries as Brown in about the same amount of years.

In 7 seasons, Brown's only averaged 4+ yards per carry twice, and he's never carried the ball more than 134 times in a season. He has, in fact, averaged under 100 carries per season (695 carries in 7 seasons).

In 6 seasons, Rice only averaged less than 4 yards per carry once, which was in his final season, when the entire offense sucked (25th in offensive scoring) and his rb2 made averaged just 2.9 yards per carry on 152 carries. With 1430 carries, he averaged 238 carries per season.

I think it's clear that the NYJFL and the 32 have decided they aren't letting Rice back into the club. It's all about the integrity*

Exactly. It's not about 32 teams deciding that Rice simply can't play anymore, which is the point I was making.

Andre Smith signs 1 year deal with the Vikes- PFT

So what's left?

As of right now the Pats have 67 players signed, 68 if you count Brandon King. With 11 draft picks that still leaves another 11 guys to fill out the camp roster....

I would like to see Blount resigned.
Sterling Moore is only 26 and still available.
Courtey Upshaw? maybe worth a look

I want:
Nate Washington
Henry Melton
Terrell Brown
Arian Foster

HUGE news out of Cleveland as Terrelle Pryor signs his RFA tender.

Oh, I thought he was a UFA. Hm. K well they have their tall fast receiver, they can trade the Pats Gordon now.

A quick perusal of the remaining free agents, cross-referenced to the Patriots seemingly biggest offensive needs, yields this, IMO:

  1. 2 OTs worth looking at in any real capacity (Okung, Beatty), with Okung likely being far too pricey
  2. 1 OG worth looking at (Evans), but likely overpriced and clearly in decline
  3. 4 WRs who could be legitimate, if not significant help (Boldin, Washington, Randle, Harvin), and several who would be functional WR4/WR5 types if the team didn't need them on STs
  4. A fair number of RBs worth at least taking a look at (LGB, Johnson, Hightower, Starks, Hillman, Foster), though some may be done/overpriced/both

Slim pickings, but still some available talent

I would add DT to your list as well. Still Knighton, Fairley and Melton out there. One of them would be a good replacement for Hicks.

I hadn't gotten to the defensive players yet, but you're right to be looking at DT depth, IMO.

melton hasnt been the same since he hurt his knee

potroast would be interesting, nobody can run up the middle against that beast!!

A quick perusal of the remaining free agents, cross-referenced to the Patriots seemingly biggest defensive needs, yields this, IMO:

3 CBs who might still be starter material (Leon Hall, Tarell Brown, Antonio Cromartie) are available, but all have question marks, and all may have declined enough that they'd have to take reserve roles.
1 CB (Brandon Boykin) may be worth looking at for nickle/dime situations
4 LBs may be worth looking at, depending upon what role the Patriots are looking to fill (Dansby, Ryans, Brown, Robertson)
2 DEs would seem to be able to fit a role (Hardy, Mincey), but I don't see any way in hell the team would sign Hardy, and I'm not sure the team is looking for DE who's more run stopper than pass rusher at this point in his career, which is how they'd probably view Mincey
r DTs would seem to be viable additions (Fairley, Knighton, Soliai, Melton, DeVito), but each one has questions and/or limitations. Knighton, Soliai and DeVito would be strictly run stuffers, Melton would be strictly pass rush, and Fairley is an all around player who gets lazy and will probably be asking for pretty big coin

Again, the pickings are slim at this point.

Setting up the draft, so that there are no glaring holes that need to be filled, allowing for more of a lean into "best player available":

WR possession-type

WR middle/deep threat

TE – pass catching

RB – 1st and 2nd; down and short yardage

RB for camp until injured guys come back

G – veteran who can compete for starting role

OT #3

DE #2 or #3

DT #3 or #4

LB #3
