For everyone still insisting that the Patriots needn't worry about getting the OWR, even though the Patriots have clearly been trying to do so since as far back as 2009, take a look at the recent SB winners:

Denver (Thomas/Sanders/Daniels)
*
Patriots (Edelman/LaFell/Gronk)
Ravens (Smith/Boldin/Pitta)
Giants (Nicks/Cruz/Manningham/Ballard)
Packers (Jennings/Driver/Nelson/Finley lost for the season)
Saints (Meachem/Henderson/Colston/Shockey)
Steelers (Ward/Holmes/Miller)
Giants (Burress/Toomer/Shockey)

With the exception of Seattle (I note them with an * as the exception, and leave them off the list for ease of scanning regarding the comment to follow), every SB winning team since at least as far back as the 2007 SB has at least a 3 pronged legitimate attack at WR/TE, and most also had a pass receiving threat out of the backfield as well. Also, if you look at the list, you see that most of those teams' threats include at least one wide receiver who is/was a middle-deep threat.

I hope that's true, but the history for that type of injury doesn't match that prognosis. It's also possible that Edelman may never be the same. I think we need to prepare ourselves for that possibility and so do the Pats.

Every player will respond a an injury different. So you really just don't know

If that is the case, it means they'll be a ton of holes in the roster. Need to fill them. Adding an unnecessary high priced safety doesn't help the situation.

Weddle at 5 M it's not high priced, far from it, it's actually a bargain in this market.
Chung will move to LB, like Buchannon and Barron. Pats need another LB besides Hightower and Collins, and that LB will be Chung if Weddle is signed.

If all Donkey fans were like you, I'd be sad for them...

Seriously, congrats on the ring! Got a feeling you guys will be back in the hunt sooner than anyone expects. Too much talent and a front office that hates losing.
Lol! Thanks! I think the FO will get Denver back if they aren't still in the mix this year, the core of that D is stil there... On your Pats im seeing Hogan talk, but no oline or RB? I keep thinking those or a great TE2 would help your O this year, I remember the Hernandez Gronk combo was nasty before the guy went OG and all...

That seems unlikely to me lol, but I guess anything is possible. Can't blame Broncos fans for hoping, I mean really who wants Sanchez starting for their team?
Exactly, I don't think it's likely but I think it's most of us trying to find hope. Seriously I'd rather have Tebow back before Sanchez. Cause if I gotta deal with fan bases jokes I at least want to have a guy that didn't do the butt fumble!

I wouldn't mind Long, but i would rather have laurinitis.

How long have you been a Pats fan.....?

Not only does this have zero chance of happening, but it would probably make us worse.

"In this market" is exactly right. Hence why BB and the Pats aren't participating in the top guy market. It's ridiculous. Adding a player for 5 million dollars per year that you don't really need ( Safety is not a need for this team, how do you not see this?) is not only a terrible idea, but completely anti Patriot.

Plenty of areas you could argue they need players.. RB, WR, OL, TE.... Safety is not one of them.

Even though it's Volin...

Danny Amendola, COME ON DOWN!

Rodney Harrison wasn't a need. LB was WAY down the list of needs when we drafted Collins with our top pick. They were critical players by their first season's end.

I don't expect Weddle to sign with us. But if it's true that his market is set around $5 million, I'd be shocked if Bill wasn't at least kicking the tires.

Is this guy ever not wrong?? They had $18m in space. It's now $12m with Hogan
Not sure why that was posted given that Miguel clearly has the $12M number.

[qoute] WR Rod Streater, who visited #Patriots last week, got a 1 year, $810k deal from #Chiefs, plus $1m incentives. $10k signing bonus & $110k gtd.[/quote]

That's a contract we could have proposed...not breaking bank what gives here??? Would have rather Streater than Dobson on our dept chart.

Yeah, that's why I included "even though it's Volin" as a qualifier. He probably got that info from Google. Even so, they may make a couple of moves to free up cap space as they go forward. If that's the case, it might be Amendola's contract that gets visited.

Shockey broke his leg in Week 15 in 2007. He watched SB 42 from a luxury box. Rookie Kevin Boss had a big game that day, though.

Drafting a player at a position That's not an immediate need makes sense, and it clearly paid off.

Signing an aging expensive FA at a position of strength doesn't
