2016 Draft Prospect Thread

Eric Striker is undersized and didn't have a great combine but 'holy attacking linebacker Batman!'

Compare it to this

"Didn't have a great combine" is quite the understatement. He measured in small, ran slowly, had poor explosion numbers for his size, etc. That said, his tape is fantastic. He reminds me of Lavonte David, but David is bigger and had better test numbers in every category. Now, his actual play is very good, and I'm not huge into raw numbers, but when I see how relatively limited he is as an athlete, I just don't know where he'd fit in this defense at his current size.

If we go O line, this guy has to be in the discussion in the 2nd round:

Except for the fact that he plays guard, not tackle.

I think we need a guard. Which tackle would you take in that spot? Solder and Vollmer will still be starters, barring further injuries, so I'd rather wait until next year for an early-round tackle.

I disagree with the idea of not drafting an early-round OT this year. Some of the events last season
might have shown that, now more than ever, a legitimate Swing Tackle with starter talent must be acquired via either free agency or the draft.
Free agency, as we've learned, is expensive; so while we still have both Solder & Vollmer, right now
would be the perfect time to draft a future starter and an immediate top backup.

I do agree with the need at OG, LG in particular. But I would rather sign a FA to start at LG;
Bill has already expended recent draft capitol at the Guard position, RG in particular.

Fair enough. But who do you take? I agree with you in theory, but once I start look at prospects available, well . . . that's where the process breaks down for me.

As of now I'll keep an eye on candidates such as LeRaven Clark, Shon Coleman, Taylor Decker and Jason Spriggs who all might be available at 60 and who might possess enough height/weight/athelticism to be
able to provide top Swing Tackle reps before starting at either Tackle position by 2017.

I'm leaning more towards WR being the first pick personally.

I just assume that Spriggs will go in the 1st, and that Clark will be gone early in the 2nd. Maybe I'm wrong, but I like both of them quite a bit. Coleman might last until our pick, and I wouldn't complain if we brought him in, but I think he's more of a right tackle in the pros. Decker's 2014 tape doesn't excite me, but in 2015 he looked like a sure-fire first rounder. Don't think he makes it even close to our pick.

Bah. This discussion just makes me angry at Goodell.

Agree. Like I said before, add 1-2 scrap heap veteran guards, draft a (maybe two) OT to develop and we are done.

If Bullard lasts until our pick in the 2nd, I'be super annoyed if we passed. Just saying.

That would be tough for me. Miller and Bullard are arguably my two favourite prospects.

Can we get someone later who can replicate what Bullard brings to the team? If yes, who?

Asking seriously, not as a smart alec.

Off the top of my head:

Bullard >>>>Charles Tapper

Miller >>>>Pharoh Cooper

Both are a downgrade though (Cooper less so).

Tapper is just a fast bod, imo. Cooper could contribute to our team sooner, though. I'm all about those linemen early in general. Bullard has a chance to be truly special.

Tapper is more than that but was criminally misused at Oklahoma. But you are preaching to the converted on Bullard. I've said, since I first watched him, that I like him more than Dominique Easley. I'd be fine with Bullard in the 2nd and Cooper in the 3rd. But I have so much emotional investment in Miller that I just can't walk away. I truly believe that in a couple of years he can be an Antonio Brown/Percy Harvin hybrid.

Jihad Ward is really intriguing. There's one video on Draft Breakdown and it isn't great for Ward - it's against Ohio State and he's getting double teamed a lot - but you really get a feel for his length, strength and athleticism. He looks like an NFL player, and, one of those upside picks BB makes in the 2nd round. Of course, he might not last that long.

Another DT that I really like is Hassan Ridgeway of Texas. Has some conditioning issues but I don't think he's that far behind Malcolm Brown from what I've seen.

And I wouldn't rule DT out as a need. Branch might be gone next year and that leaves us with Malcolm Brown and Dominique Easley and not much else.

I think Chris Jones is the DT pick, he falshed ( more then he should really ) at combine. Then they can get a "NT" late day 3 with a comp pick.
