source says Rishard Matthews believes there is more opportunity for him in Tenn. won't be 4th option at best

I always wonder how important this is to WRs. I would assume most WRs would like to be in a O where they can get more balls their way ect where a team like Pats spread it all over.

Someone show him LaFell's 2014 numbers

No, it's not.

Yes it is. Nothing on the outside. Nothing. Part the reason they lost in Denver. Remember Sanders jumping for balls on the sidelines?

Yeah we don't have that right now.

Y/C declining steadily from 15.6 4 years ago to 11.4 last year. Brings solid skills and great attitude, but less than 90% of what he was. Nobody left gonna worry defensive coordinators.

True, that's a good point. I don't think any WR in this FA class really scares DCs though, to be honest. Marvin Jones maybe, I guess, but I think Rishard Matthews is just as good a player as Jones, albeit not a "take the top off the defense" type.

I remember exactly. That jump ball over Butler on 3rd and long was a backbreaker.

Time to get creative.

Sign Mike Wallace and have him run a bunch of end-arounds/jet sweeps. And some go-routes (look how that worked for Carolina/Gin last year)

It can be an extension of our running game. If that starts working well, throw in some fakes to help set up some runs for Blount/Lewis/? (defense will be on their heels) and even the pass.

Maybe Harvin, although I'd be too nervous every time he touched the ball, hoping he won't get hurt.

If we need to go into the season running a gadget offense then we are screwed.

Bummer, IMO Matthews mad a mistake there. He would've had more opportunity here than in Tennessee. He'll be at best the #2 option in the Titans' passing game, and would've been the #3 option here. At that point, the big difference becomes that the Pats are a high-volume, highly effective passing attack. While the Titans have a questionable at best passing game led by a QB with questionable ability to make reads and hang in the pocket. The WR2 in NE will get at least as many targets as the WR2 in an offense like Tennessee's, even accounting for Gronk and Lewis pushing him down to the #3, maybe even #4 overall option.

Alternately, if Matthews doesn't think he can be a top-4 target in this offense, then he must not think very much of himself, in which case I wouldn't really want him anyway. If you're committing significant money to someone, he'd better believe he can beat out Danny Amendola.

None of the available WRs will match LaFell 2014. I'm not even sure they offer much more than Keshawn Martin. The scenario of concern is that if JE and DA are unhealthy again in Dec., we got squat at WR.

That sounds better than it was about money

We need to draft 3 receivers if we dont make trades

Eh, it's day 1 of FA. Last year around this time everyone was panicking because all evidence said we were utterly screwed at RB and CB. A lot will happen between now and when actual games start being played.

Quote from a diehard Dolphins fan on another forum I frequent about Matthews
He's a boundary receiver that does his best work on the intermediate routes that call for man coverage because he's ****ing tough. Great receiver. Im really happy he's going to a great young qb

Phew, got no need for that, good thing we passed on him.
