Patriots Will Reportedly Pick Up Gronkowski's Option, Keeping Him in the Fold Through 2019

First post so I feel compelled to respond. How about trying to read the tweet again to get some context?

The emojis are thinking faces, a workout emoji and a football. Those don't indicate anger.

"I don't work hard for THOSE REASONS": $$$

The dude says "HAHA" at the end so that means he's "disgruntled", "angry"' and anyone who doesn't think so (based on Gronk's history of NEVER being angry or disgruntled) is a "homer"? Come off it, please.

And welcome aboard!

I hate this crap.

Pats did him a solid when his durability was still a question mark.

He signed the deal and now he is regretting it.

Immature.

I recommend you read my recent post to see how it breaks down. He isn't regretting anything at all.

LOL

just because he's not threatening to hold out,(yet) and Just because the tweet has emojis and humor doesn't mean he's happy about his contract. Since when did you become the end all Gronk translator?

He wouldn't have tweeted about it at all if he was totally fine with being the 4th highest paid TE. Stop pretending you know what he meant by the tweet.

I read your post.

My position on the matter is stronger than yours.

He is *****ing that he is busting his ass training and playing for a pay cut.

He is using Twitter as a platform to passively complain.

If you actually follow his Tweets and stop listening to sports media, then you'd actually have history that backs up the point that he always is in a joking manner. When has he ever done anything to disrupt the team/locker room since he's been in there? Oh that's right, NEVER. He knows more than anybody never to do anything that would jeopardize his team. Oh and what about this Tweet from our very own Ian?

Is that pretend as well? OK. Let's just throw a guy under the bus to make ourselves feel better (or to make up a story in mid-March when nothing else is going on).

Disagree, Robert. My take is that "I don't work hard for those reasons" meant that his primary focus isn't the bottom line.

Is there a little bit of him, say, pointing that out to boast, or to suggest, hey, feel free to send some more cash my way? Maybe. But I take it as being very lighthearted, and not at all worthy of "I hate this crap."

Just my take.

Thats fine. Maybe he did mean it the way you have interpreted it. Very possible indeed. I don't want to debate what he actually meant.

My point is that taking to Twitter and expressing some level of dissatisfaction with his multi-million $ contract that HE signed was lame.

OK...but what he meant is sort of key here--the difference between a complaint and a joke. Just sayin'.

I understand. However, people use jokes as veiled attempts to express their real feelings in a passive manner all the time.

But the "haha" at the end is a huge indication to me that it isn't passive. Maybe it's a chuckle or maybe a fart, who knows. Fact is, this shouldn't have been that big of a deal but everything is in the media these days. Tell ya what, if Gronk doesn't show at minicamps or such, or becomes a locker room cancer this season, then there's a problem that needs to be addressed.

You can still go to work and do your job with no intention of quitting or interviewing and be pissed about your salary compensation.

That's the thing about this generation though. We need an outlet to express what we had for breakfast. Yes, it's stupid and perhaps not the right way to go about it, but for a guy who's never expressed/shown frustration in anything but on-field performance, I take him at his word rather than someone not connected to the team (media).

You can't be serious.

So he needs to voice his personal observation on how his salary is "reduced" for just the hell of it?

Didn't Gronk sign this in 2012 after the 2011 season when his durability wasn't in question after he hadn't missed a single game?

It's not for the hell of it. Like @aluminum seats said, it's probably more along the lines of bragging or showing off. Again, I'm not saying it's the correct course of action to take, but I certainly don't think he's said this to cause the ruckus it has.

It's was a subtle, passive motion to voice displeasure of his salary.

Was it malicious? Of course not.

Or, in an incredibly competitive environment, playing in a league full of guys with massive egos, it was a way to acknowledge that he's not playing for an amount of money equivalent to his ranking as a tight-end (best of all time)...that he knows that, and uses a forum that players have now to say that's not his primary motivator.

No, that's probably not it, even though we all want to think only Patriot players are the ones who aren't about the money, but the greater good of the team.
