Not to steal the thunder from the gameday thread, but I was wondering if people would be open to Lewis -- aka the coach who could not keep his players from self-destructing -- being one of our assistant's next year if he were interested.

Is it bad karma to hire the coach that is decent with schemes but bad with people? Maybe he is still the Bungles head coach next season, but never too early to start this conversation.

ps. I'm lazy at almost 1am and am just recycling my message about Coughlin. Call it parody or something.

Any other head coaches worth pursuing when they are given the heave ho?

Coughlin would really stir a few pots around here surely....

Oh it is most definitely maybe a joke. I voted Lewis is bad karma. I might be up to him being the assistant to the assistant defensive coach.
Unsure if joke or....

Can they go after Gruden. BB doesn't let his assistants talk to the media, and that way I won't have to listen to him in broadcasts anymore.
I think Gruden is too happy in his cushy job, even if the rest of us are despondent whenever we hear him attempting to give insight.

Yes it is parody.

Why would you want to have Marvin Lewis anywhere near the Patriots? Pretty clear that he can't handle player discipline.

I'm not going to lie. I actually feel kind of bad for Lewis this time around. I personally wouldn't blame him for this one, as much as people will. Hell, he almost pulled off the upset with AJ McCarron playing QB. While we're at it, yes, Burfict is a hot head, but he's still paid off handsomely as a late round draft flier. He's one of the reasons why CIN has a tough front seven.

It's a shame to see the kind of meltdown that occurred tonight, but I don't know why Marvin Lewis would be fired over it. Firing Lewis isn't going to guarantee that you don't have injuries or players who get tempers when divisional rivals are involved. More importantly, it certainly isn't going to guarantee that the Bengals organization improves as a whole. They had a very good season this year, and have proven to be a pain in the butt for their entire division, which is no small feat with the likes of BAL and PIT.

Lewis' 0-7 playoff record certainly isn't helping his cause, but my concern would be that sometimes it is assumed that the grass is somehow greener, and that may not be the case. After SD fired Schottenheimer, they didn't exactly improve upon their 14-2 record, and that was 8 seasons ago.

You said it yourself right there. Marvin Lewis deserves to be fired because he's 0-7 in the playoffs, and that team has been packed with talent for a long, long time now. The crap at the end of the game was just icing on the cake.

I'm just not a big believer in firing a coach to fire him. In this case, I believe that Lewis should be judged on whether or not he has improved his team and continued to move forward. I think the current version of the Bengals is the best we've seen since Lewis has been there, or at least one could argue that the past 2-3 years have had them as a very solid competitor.

I couldn't care less about the previous 6 losses, because his team was a joke in most of them, and all of them had different circumstances, like the one tonight. Now, if Pittsburgh had come out and won a 33-7 game, I'd probably agree a bit more, but even then the loss of Dalton would have to be taken into account.

I'd argue that they've lost their first playoff game six years in a row. That's not very much improvement.

Not to mention, they had a bye locked, and choked it away down the stretch - still terrible in prime time games...

As the announcers pointed out a few weeks ago in the DEN/CIN game, some of that 0-6 (previously) postseason failure has been a bit overblown, though. In many of those games, they were expected to lose and were already playing on borrowed time. The Bengals of late have been a different team. They've actually proven to be a real contender on some level. No longer are they simply competing for a wild card spot with a 9-7 or 10-6 record. Now they're winning the division and competing for a bye.

If I'm the owner, I'd want to ask myself if I believe that the past 2-3 seasons have shown improvement on the old "pretender" Bengals, specifically this season. If the answer is yes, then there's no reason to mess with anything, other than to maybe address the way that one/two players tends to get hot under the collar and make poor choices on the field, and even then I'm not sure what you'd do with proven players like Burfict or Jones, who contributed to the team's success this season in a big way.

Ultimately, I think it comes down to the question of: "are we building something here, or are we staying the same/moving backwards?"

The easy answer from a fan or casual observer would be that they are staying the same, but I believe that Cincy has taken a step or two towards proving that they're a much tougher out than they've been in the past. Again, that's just my opinion, but I thought they played very tough tonight. Like I said, had they lost the game 33-7 or 33-13, THEN I'd agree that they're "the same old Bungles."

It will be interesting to see if he stays or not, but it's hard for me to imagine Brown firing him now, when he didn't fire him for the mediocre performances of the past. In my opinion they're proving to be a strong competitor in that division, and also in the entire AFC. We'll see how it shakes out, though.

What do you mean?!?!??! After you proposed Tomsula to us!
That was no joke. He would bring a fresh perspective to Concessions.
