Thanks, by the way, to whoever came up with the awesome Mike Pettiness moniker. Although playing the red hot Wilson this week, Pettine made sure to tell the media that Wilson doesn't belong in the top class of QBs because he doesn't carry the team like other QBs. He mentioned Brady (who he doesn't like because of his delusional cheating accusation), Rodgers, Brees, and Roethlisberger.

Mike Pettine wouldn’t put Russell Wilson in the top tier of NFL QBs

Personally, I would take Wilson over Roethlisberger and maybe Brees at this point in his career. Roethlisberger has shown more than any of those guys that he struggles without incredibly elite talent around him. True, Seattle has a great defense, but Wilson has also gotten it done without a bunch of star skill players, too. His career passer rating is over 100, and he's at 110 this year. That doesn't even account for his running prowess. The only knock on Wilson is he doesn't throw the ball 40-50 times a game, but when asked to throw a lot, he's done fine. A lot of the Wilson hate reminds me of Brady's early career when he was "penalized" by jealous fans for having a strong defense and balanced offense, though he excelled at everything he was asked to do.

I think Brady and a healthy Rodgers are in a class of their own with Wilson being a step below, and then the rest of the pack below that.

What are your thoughts?

He just guaranteed a 50-0 beating

Same as before I saw this thread. He's an idiot and a jackass.

Idiotic thing for a coach to say about an opponent, but in terms of the pure evaluation he just said there were 2 to 4 guys in a tier above Wilson -- Brady and Rogers, and maybe Brees and Roethlisberger. That seems perfectly reasonable.

I agree with him.

I think Russell Wilson is a very good QB and is kicking absolute ass his last 4 games.

He isn't the passer that Brady, Brees, Rodgers or Ben are.

Thats it.

As coach of a ****-ass team why he would make that statement is beyond comprehension

He said that Wilson's just one step down from the elite QBs, and mentioned Brady, Brees, Rodgers and Roethlisberger as the elites. If anything, he's overrating Wilson.

There's nothing to see here, but people will, naturally, act as if he insulted everyone's mom.

Of more significance is that the Seahawks are looking as if they are back on track and poised for another run at the title.

Time will be the true measuring stick for wilson. If what we are aeeing from wilson recently is what we should expect, he will absolutely be in the top tier.

I won't punish a guy for having stats behind the other greats if wins follow him. He is still very young in his career, but of the next generation QBs, I would take him above all of the luck, dalton, newton group. Being on a tier below Brady brees and Rodgers means you probably haven't had as many reps, which is not a slight at all.

He's right. Wilson is not as good as the top 4, at least not yet. He's got a long way to prove it. Joe flacco has also had a 4 or 5 game stretch where he looked invincible.

Yeah.... I'm not sure when it became an insult to any QB (other than, possibly, Peyton) not to be considered in the same class as Brady/Rodgers/Brees/Roethlisberger.

Wilson's numbers over each of his last 2 years (SuperBowl winning season + nearly another SuperBowl season) are very comparable & better in some areas than Cam Newton's are this year. Yet all we heard about Wilson during that time was how he benefited from having such a strong defense - something we don't hear nearly as much for Newton.
