Thanks, by the way, to whoever came up with the awesome Mike Pettiness moniker. Although playing the red hot Wilson this week, Pettine made sure to tell the media that Wilson doesn't belong in the top class of QBs because he doesn't carry the team like other QBs. He mentioned Brady (who he doesn't like because of his delusional cheating accusation), Rodgers, Brees, and Roethlisberger.
Mike Pettine wouldn’t put Russell Wilson in the top tier of NFL QBs
Personally, I would take Wilson over Roethlisberger and maybe Brees at this point in his career. Roethlisberger has shown more than any of those guys that he struggles without incredibly elite talent around him. True, Seattle has a great defense, but Wilson has also gotten it done without a bunch of star skill players, too. His career passer rating is over 100, and he's at 110 this year. That doesn't even account for his running prowess. The only knock on Wilson is he doesn't throw the ball 40-50 times a game, but when asked to throw a lot, he's done fine. A lot of the Wilson hate reminds me of Brady's early career when he was "penalized" by jealous fans for having a strong defense and balanced offense, though he excelled at everything he was asked to do.
I think Brady and a healthy Rodgers are in a class of their own with Wilson being a step below, and then the rest of the pack below that.
