Week 9 Injury Updates (ongoing)

mod edit: thread title changed since this is week ten, not week nine.

What's up with Collins?

Sheard's return is a big positive. Cannon has no limp so improving but not quite ready (let's see if he returns tomorrow). Jackson said to be 1-2 weeks per Reiss. Collins is sick, could be flu. Can't be sure, obviously, but with most bugs would expect return this week or next. Vollmer unpredictable with head (apparent concussion) thus roster spot open for PS call up if needed. Immediate issue is blocking the edges (Fleming, Stork?), but at least Ware doesn't play for Giants (plus he is thought to be out for a couple of weeks). Looking pretty good for Denver I'd say.

I won't worry about Vollmer until later in the week. The concussion protocol would have made it hard for him to make it on the field by today even if he is playing Sunday.

IIRC, since concussions became a big deal, NE has yet to have a player diagnosed with one take the field the following week. I don't expect him to play.

I don't like Collins still being out. It's 4 days since he first got sick, so the flu should be waning by now, especially if it's only a walk through.

There's a bug running thru the lockerroom. Collins has it. Hightower hinted at having it. Expect a few names every week 'til it runs its course. Gad! I hate Patriots flu season.

Don't they get their flu shots? C'mon man!

If either Cannon or Vollmer is ready, Belichick may not call up a Practice Squad player. Clearly, we have an emergency RT in Stork. If both Cannon and Vollmer are ready, there is no reason to add an addition OT to the active squad, since we have Fleming, Williams and Stork.

On the other hand, this is an opportunity for someone to get a bit of game experience while Jones and Fletcher are still on the PUP list. We have an open roster spot and could easily clear another.

Bad thing about the flu is you're contagious before you really show "Holy crap, I've got the flu!" symptoms. I like that BB sends them away so it won't spread but it might be a case of closing the barn door after the livestock has escaped.

That certainly appears to be the game plan for this week. If Bill had another idea for that open spot (like a Lewis replacement), he would have brought in someone by now.

So on the road vs a decent team without a sh#tload of starters.... Not good.
Knowing the way the Pats handle injuries (no one outside the team ever knows ANYTHING) I can see Jamie Collins going on IR with Ebola("sickness"), Vollmer going on IR with a lobotomy ("head")....

Offensive Line? No problem. I'm ready.

Most of the time when a player is on the list for "flu" it's not real flu (i.e. influenza). Most likely it's some kind of "stomach flu", i.e. norovirus (a.k.a. cruise ship disease). Nothing you can vaccinate for.

That said, Collins has apparently had this for almost a full week which is getting kinda long for most stomach bugs. Hope to hell it's not real flu because that can leave you weak for weeks afterward.

If Collins had the flu, I think he would be back by now. This is concerning.

Those bugs run their course in a day or two.

My kid's past 3yo self would beg to differ with you. Many stomach bugs are that quick but certainly not all.
