No nfl offense should be held to six total points even with a backup, great job by the defense

I wonder if @Interception will make an appearance in this thread again. My guess is no.

It has been four games against terrible teams. The steelers without Bell, the ****ing Bills, the Cowboys without Dez and Romo, and the Jaguars. Give me a ****ing break. Let's see what happens when we face a good QB, and I don't mean Andrew Luck.

You should have thought of this before you posted your O.P., especially since the Patriots had already played the Steelers before you started the thread.

But that wasn't what the thread was about. You asked, "will this be a top ten D?". The Pats can only play who is on their schedule.

I will admit that the D had a easier game against the Cowboys without Romo and Bryant.

FWIW, the offense only needed to score a total of 7 points to win the game last week.

Patriots are currently 7th in points allowed, 12th in yards allowed. 11th against the pass.

That's flirting with a top 10 defense, is it not?

However that offense with Weeden put up 28 against Atlanta. Which is the most Atlanta has given up this year so far.

Would actually be a top 10 defense statistically if it wasn't for a couple end of game, garbage TD drives by the Steelers and Jaguars.

Yes, and I appreciated the effort at a positive framing in this thread. Still, defensive stats are such fools gold. Witness the fourth quarter of the Cowboys game. They willingly gave up 7 yard completions in the middle of the field in exchange for 30 seconds off the clock. The stats balloon while they calmly, methodically put the clamps on the game.

Agree, and that's why the Patriots will never be a top 5 defense no matter who's playing.

They don't quit keeping stats in garbage time.

Yes true but with Dez on the field I don't think the Pats would have double covered whitten etc... might have affected their pass rush on Weeden. Possibly more points for the Cowboys but not 24 more.

That said the Pats defense has delivered better than I have expected this season and it's only going to get better and if you think of a team in a complementary basis this defense is more than good enough.

This defense still has a very long way to go.

And they're already a top 10 defense.

Everybody starts tied. They can only play who they play, but they have not passed the eye test. Too many receivers getting open....sure, the QB sucks and misses them...but that will not last.

I haven't seen a pass rush like this since Pete Carroll was the coach.

You said it yourself, they've got a long way to go. It's a bunch of young players that are only getting better with each snap.

If we're going to talk about the competition we've faced rendering our stats meaningless, the same thing can be said about Denver, who has faced even weaker competition. Of all the undefeated teams, we've had the most difficult schedule.
